Summer Reading Reflection

Over the summer, you were asked to read at least two novels of your choice.
1) Briefly tell me what you read, including the titles and authors.
2) I want to know what you liked about the books, what you learned and, more importantly, what matters to you about the book's content.

*Make sure to adhere to proper conventions and proofread your response. If, for some reason, you did not read two novels, tell me about two novels you have read and answer the above. This blog post must be completed by 2:30p.m. on Friday, August 28th, 2009.

Over the summer, I read Harry Potter 6 and 7. I really liked those books because they're exciting and entertaining. J.K. Rowling writes the Harry Potter books, and I like all of them. I also learned a lot about wizards which was pretty sick!

During the summer i read Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer and i read The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. These are two totally different books obviously, however; i enjoyed both of them.

I love the twilight series. I'm working on the very last one, finally, and i love the plot and characters. I always feel like I'm in the story when i read this series. I learned love is very complicated even when you aren't human and friendships are a really important part in life no matter what. What matters about this books content is how interesting it is, which it always is so that's not a problem.

In The Secret Life of Bees i love how it takes place in the 19060's. It made it a little challenging to picture everything in my head. I learned even more about racism, how separated whites and African Americans were. What matters in this books content is how descriptive it is. Because it takes place a while ago, having descriptive words helps me visualize the story better.

over the summer i read Twilight and New Moon by Stephanie Meyer.
i thought they were great! I liked them because when I would start to read I couldn't put the book down, and i got really into the plot and got really emotional when i read them. When reading these books i learned that nothing can be perfect and to never get too attached to someone.

Over the summer, I read The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks and My Sister's Keeper by jodi Picoult. Both of these books were amazing and if I had to recommend a book to someone, I would definitely recommend one of these two.

The Notebook is a wonderful book. When I began to read I couldn't put the book down. I could also picture the setting and characters in the book which made it much more interesting to read. From this book, I learned that love happens and no matter what, If you love someone enough you will stick with them and love them till the end.

My Sister's Keeper had a lot of lessons in it but one really stood out to me. I learned that a family is a family and a family sticks together no matter what. I really got into this book and could not put it down. I love the way Jodi Picoult writes her books. She is truly a gifted person.

This summer I read Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer. And I read A Great and Terrible Beauty, by Libba Bray.

I really really REALLY enjoyed A great and Terrible Beauty, it was about this girl named Jemma and during the story she becomes an orphan. The story is set in the Victorian ages which was super interesting to me. It was filled with corsets, dresses, and rich boarding schools for young women. This story teaches you about how an open mind can make your imagination spread. I really liked how the suspense would stay with you the whole story, it really made it easy to stay with this book.

I also read Twilight. This story was not as appealing to me as A great and Terrible Beauty, but it was also a pretty good book because it filled me with Butterflies every time i would hear something about Edward. I learned how you can trust people even though they could easily hurt you. I really liked the way Stephenie Meyer choose her word choice throughout this book, it really pulled you deeper and deeper in the book.

This summer I read the true blood series by Charlaine Harris. The first book Charline wrote was "Dead Until Dark" this book starts out in a small town called Bon Temps, and is about this girl Sookie Stackhouse and her life in Bon Temps. Sookie is telepathic and falls madly in love with this vampired named bill however; sookie is aloofed to what is about to happen to her life since she met bill.
in the second book sookie is getting over the man she killed in the first book. Sookie and bill are having many problems and sookie doesn't know if she can take it anymore. also in this book many new characters are introduced and the people in Bon Temps are starting to change.
what i really liked about this book is that it was always at its climax it never was not interesting. another thing i like about my book was that she made it non-fiction and fiction at the same time. what i mean by that is she made it into the real world and put some reality into it then also made it fantasy by adding vampires, werewolves, telepathic people and shape-shifters.

Over the summer I read Nights in Rodanthe and Dear John, both by Nicholas Sparks. I've read many of his books so far and I'm working on reading all of them.

Nights in Rodanthe is now one of my favorite books. It's very romantic, like most books by Nicholas Sparks, so it was the perfect choice for me. I have read many romantic books and a lot of them are about young love, so i liked how unique the characters were in this book because of their age and experiences. I think the main point of this book and also what I have learned was that no matter what you have been through or what your age is, you still deserve a second chance and it's never too late for love.

I was deeply inspired by the character Savannah in Dear John. In the book she is described as very mature and easy-going. She was very influential to many people and she portrays a real role model. I hope to acquire some of the same traits as her while growing up. I have learned from this book that one person can really make a difference even if it's in a small way.

Over the summer I read The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. Both books were a challenging read which I thoroughly enjoyed. Each made me question the Catholic Church it ways I would never think of on my own. These two books have been made into movies but I have yet to see the Angels and Demons movie. The Da Vinci Code was a good movie but I enjoyed the book more. I read the picture edition of The Da Vinci code and I really recommend it, it shows you that the places the books takes you do really exist!

During the summer I read The Alchemyst by Michael Scott and Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli. I loved the Harry Potter series and thought, "Why not try The Alchemyst and see if it is similar to what I originally knew." what I read was completely unexpected. As for Milkweed I had read it because it was a book I own and I knew that I hadn't read it yet so I just picked it up.

The Alchemyst was an interesting read. It was filled with magic, murder, mayhem, and mysterious adventures. The ending however left me hanging so I'll be sure to read the sequel.

Milkweed was about the holocaust which, of course, was written in the perspective of a Polish Jew. However, it wasn't written smoothly so it was hard to keep reading it. Moreover I would recommend The Alchemyst more than I would with Milkweed

During the summer I read the books, Breaking Dawn, by Stephenie Meyer, and the book, Marley and Me by John Grogan.

I chose to read Breaking Dawn because I love the Twilight series. This book has been the most shocking and interesting by far. The thing I love most about this book is the way that the author describes the characters emotions. It feels as if you're in that book, and are going through the same situation that the character.

Marley and Me was much more personal. It's a true story and pulls at your heart. I liked this book because it really made you realize that, although this may be the worst dog in the world, it has also been the best in many ways. This story makes you think about the important things in your life, and how even a small thing, can make such a big difference in it.

This summer I read the books Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer and My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. These books were really different from one another, but I really enjoyed both.
I choose Breaking Dawn because I had read all the other books in the Twilight series. This book was probably my favorite of the whole series. I loved it. You always fell that you are in the books because of the way they are written. In this book you learn that love is not always easy and you also learn that even when life seems like it can't get better, don't give up hope because you never now what could happen.
My Sister’s Keeper is a totally different book, but I still loved it. This book is based of a true story and is really sad, yet so good and just amazing. In this book, the main character is Anna; Anna was born to save her sister who has leukemia, when Anna turns 13 she decides to sue her parents, and that is what the book is all about. I learned that you can’t take life for granted, really chares what you have.

Over the summer I read The Warrior Heir and The Wizard Heir by Cinda Chima. I thought they were both pretty good. They are both fantasy books about magical beings that fight each other. Both books made me feel like I was part of the story, and they were very entertaining. I recommend them to anyone that likes fantasy stories about wizards.

Over the summer I read The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger, and I also read The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. Both of these books were very fascinating and exiting books to read.

The Catcher in the Rye was very captivating, and i could not let to book out of my hands. I liked how J.D Salinger describes his setting and characters because it sketches an image in my mind.

The Glass Castle is also a very appealing book to read. The author shows and describes the life of underprivileged kids living and surviving on basically nothing. It really opened my eyes toward other people in the world.

Over the summer, I read The Glass Castle by Janette Walls, and Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom.

Both books I very much enjoyed. What i liked about the The Glass Castle is that I was never bored. There was always something exciting going on, and it's a true story. What I learned is to really appreciate what you ahev in life, because the Walls family had it so bad, but every member of the family was so appreciative. The books content is always so interesting, heart warming, and heart breaking.

What I liked about Tuesdays with Morrie was the relationship between Mitch and his professer. They were so close in College, then separated, then in the blink of an eye they are close again. What I learned from this book, is to not let death get you down. When you have loved, you have lived, and you aceept when it's your time to go. What is important about the content of this book is the deep spiritual meaning, and all of the life lessons that are learmed.

During the summer I read two awesome books. One was Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul by Jack Janfield, Mark Victor Hansen, and Kimberly Kirberger. The other book I read was Brian's Winter by Gary Paulsen. Both books I really liked and enjoyed reading.
The first book I read was Chicken Soup. I loved how it was just all about these stories that actually happened in real life that even some I could relate to. Sometimes the stories were incredibly sad and depressing and made me think why do I want to read this book, but it also had so many other feelings in different stories like inspiring, some funny, and happy. That's the thing about me, I love reading books that I can either relate to or may help me in the future with situations or problems I may face.
The other book I read was Brian's Winter. I read it because I loved the book hatchet and also liked how the author Gary Paulsen how he was so descriptive. I learned so much from his books on how to survive in the wild. Even though that sounds kind of funny I really enjoyed it, and you never know what might happen in life. But it's nice to know that I'm at least a little prepared if something like that would ever happen to me in life.
