I think that Esperanza learns that she has to be happy with herself and she learns that she has to have more self confidence.

i think that the writer of the story is trying to communicate how family and friends are one of the biggest influences that can occur in someones life!

I think Esperanza learned many things throughout this story. She went through tough times and fun times. She learned life will not always go the way you want it to, however; you just have to live through it. She also learned to be more confident and not care what people think about you.

i think the message this book is giving off is that you should believe in your heart and don't worrie what other people say about you. and you should make smart and wise choices

i think that the author is trying to express the issues and adventures that arise in adolescence...

Esperanza learned that she needs to pick better friends. She also learned not to trust everyone that she meets. Another message of this story is that you need to show what you believe in and not be afraid of what other people think.

I think that the author was trying to tell people that there are kids out there that have some problems in life. I think it's also saying that when you grow up you have to understand what other people are going through

when i was reading the book the house on mango street i learned that you do not need to grew up that quick. some themes of this story art to grow up, and not to do it so fast that you skip all the good times and that stuff.

Esperanza learns who she is and that she doesn't need her dream house to be who she really wants to be.

I didn't like the book because it was boring for me and i couldn't get into the story.

I thought that the book seemed pretty depressing because it was just a really hard place to live and it just seemed kinda like a bad place to grow up in. i feel bad for the girl but i think the moral of the story was to not give up or something like that.

i think that the book totally sucked. it was just a bunch of random crap all put together. it made no sense and there was almost no plot. it was the worst book ever. it was boring and pointless. snuggies rule!

1 Esperanza learns what not to do growing up and what to do. She learns respect, betrayal, and so much about what life is going to bring to her.

2 The author's message is portraying to the audience that life is full of unexpected happenings and that no matter what you go through, it is going to be okay because there are people who care and support you.

3 Esperanza had no control deciding where she could live, the people she knew, or the traumatic events that happened to her. Even though she tried to fight it .

I though the theme of Mango Street is that even small or negative experiences can effect someone lives greatly.

I didn't like it that much. the way it was laid out and the amount if detail was too much.

i thought that the book was directed more to people that are older then we are so they can relate it more to how there childhood was.

Randy E said...

I thought her stories were kind of funny not really depressing

I didn't like the The House On Mango Street because it didn't really flow and it didn't seem to have a point. I don't think that the book had an impact on me and it was kind of an a depressing book. There was a lot of little stories but they didn't seem to tie together at all.

Esperanza learns by learning to trust and not trust people.
A message of the story could be to persevere and stay strong throughout your life, and move on from hardships and bad times in your life, and work hard. But to stay strong and learn.
I think she didn't like her childhood, but she was thankful for what she had and really appreciated it when things went well.
I don't think it was good, but it wasn't bad. I liked how short thee vignettes are, but i was never looking forward to reading it, and i was never curious of cared what happened next. It was kind of bland.

in Mango Street the author discusses that everyone has rough patches in life, Saying how bad life can be and how bad they have it and they can't get anywhere in life. Life is not that bad and making life that bad is your own fault.

The book had many different topics and it was very hard to follow.

I think every book ever wrote has a moral!!! Even if its between the lines or something like that, even children boooks have a moral thimg

abby bockenkamp said...

i think that the book was bad. there was no plot and nothing fit together. it was just a tonna random stuff that was kinda depressing... she has, like, no life.

Lindsay W. said...

I didn't like The House on Mango Street because it had so many depressing vignettes that weren't easy to understand and it was written in a different text that was foreign to me.

I think that Esperanza learned how to be confident and stick up for herself. I also did not like the format of the book. The message of the book, was to learning to be happy with what you get and not everything is a popularity contest. It is also about growing up and accepting who you are.

KymS said...

I didnt really like the book because all she talks about is the sad stuff and nothing good or happy.

Madisonw said...

I think that Esperanza learns to believe in herself and i think she learns to be happy with who she is.

Hayden C said...

I did not really like the book because it was too random and the chapters didn't tie into each other and they were all sad. I don't want to read about that!

Pierce M! said...

I didn't like the book because she compared really weird stuff, like her mom's hair is like fresh homemade bread. I think that there are many other things that she can compare her moms hair to rather then homemade bread...

I think that Esperanza needs to learn that she is who she is and she needs to have confidence.

I think that Esperanza will grow up to be very wise. She has been so many things... And i agree with Haley about how the stories were not very happy all the time, but going through the experiences she did. I think that will lead her into being a great person. And i hope that she will get her dream house... that she'll be able to share her stories with the world around her to help people who have gone through the same things as she. :)

Jason L said...

I think that Esperanza did not have a good childhood because she did not like where she lived and she had a very poor family that sometimes did not always encourage her.
I also did not like the book because it was kind of depressing and all we did was read about what Esperanza thought of her life, and it was really sad.

jacksonader said...

I think esperanza learns the most from her own mistakes(she learns alot) and the mistakes of others. But mostly her own. sometimes we learn the best from our own mistakes

ErikaK said...

I think Esperanza learned that you have to be happy with what you have, because during Shoes, she had to deal with old shoes but she ended up really enjoying herself. "Did you like the book? Why or why not?" i didn't really enjoy the book because it was kinda confusing when it was told about totally different things and it liked skipped around. But i don't agree that Esperanza is really negative because some chapters are upbeat and happy, but i also think that we all have negative experiences.

abby bockenkamp said...

i think that when esperanza is older shes gonna go back to mango street just because it seems like so much in her life went on there... whether she liked it or not.

alexc said...

i think that Esperanza will become a writer and be able to buy her dream house

Pierce M! said...

They talked a lot of other people leaving to France, Texas, and Mexico and i have been to all of those places, which brought good memories.

jacksonader said...

Esperanza, and this whole book kind of depressed me, and i just think that she is just a real downer!!!!!!!!!

Jason L said...

When doing a Socratic seminar we need to be able to talk and function on our own without any help from the teacher.
WE also need to respect each others opinions.

Peyton M. said...

I liked the book in some ways, i just wish that the author would add some happy moments because she only wrote about depressing things, which was very downing...

Lindsay W. said...

I think that Esperanza grows up, moves away, and in a few years time returns back to Mango Street to find the house she had once lived in empty.

Madisonw said...

I liked the book because I thought that it was interesting and I liked how it was separated in different story's that explained what she was going through in her life.

yo2jody said...

The narrator learned alot through out the book. she matured on her own learned by noticing. i liked the book

KymS said...

I can relate to the sky vignettes. I like the sky because its just so big. It really pretty, and amazing. I can also relate to when she was naming the clouds and finding pictures in them because i love to do that!

AJ.B said...

I think that she actually went away and was able to become relatively successful. The author left the last few chapters to be hopeful. to give the reader the idea she was going somewhere better.

peterm said...

i think esperanza learned that growing up is complicated and that there are things about it that people dont always understand

Allie Sutterer said...

I think the theme i s about growing up and how all your childhood expeiriences contribute to the way you veiw the world.
