"Shorty like a melody stick in my head..." in the song Reply by:Iyaz shows a simile. In this song Iyaz compares a girl(Shorty) to a melody that always gets stuck in your head, so the girl is always on his mind.
I think in the song eleanor rigby by the beatles eleanor rigby is a metaphor for lonely people which is alson reffred to in the song.
the way that a song is like a poem is because when you here a song it is a poem. they just sing it.
A line from a song that i find poetic is "I'm the man who can't be moved." This is partially literal and partially a metaphor. This song is about a guy who is in love with a girl who doesn't love him anymore, so he wait on a corner and will stay there until she crosses his path. That's the literal part. You must look deeper to find the metaphoric part. Maybe by saying his emotions can't be moved or changed. That his love will always stay the same and not move.
"the stars lean down to kiss you and i lay awake and miss you pour me a heavy dose of atmosphere" Vanilla Twilight by Owl City
this piece of lyrics demonstrates personification because stars can't actually kiss someone.
In very few ways that the music that I listen to relates to some poetry. The song I would like to relate to is "Lips of Angel" by the band Hinder.
" Somewhere out there beneath the pale moonlight Someone's thinking of me and loving me tonight Somewhere out there someone's saying a prayer That we'll find one another in that big somewhere out there " This songs shows that there is rhythm and rhyming. Someone thinking of me and loving me tonight although they are not truly together, just thinking.
One of my favorite songs is by lifehouse. "Feeling alive all over again,
As deep as the sky, under my skin
Like being in love, she says
For the first time
Maybe I'm wrong,
But I'm feeling right where I belong
With you tonight
Like being in love
To feel for the first time" i think these lyrics are saying that being with the one you love can be like felling again, felling alive for the first time again. Im not sure what kind of poetry this uses but I think its a metaphor.
- Kacie Lillmars
One of my favorite song lyrics is from the killers song "Read my Mind" and it says "the stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun". That is a simile because it compairs the stars to diamonds cut out of the sun using like.
"So Carry Me, I'm just a dead man Lying on the carpet Can't find a heartbeat Make me breathe, I want to be a new man Tired of the old one Out with the old plan..." this is from the song carry me by jars of clay. this just means to me that there is a chance to be better
I believe that there is a lot of poetry in all different types of music. One type that I listen to is rap. Rap is a big genre of music that expresses poetry. One of my favorite songs expresses a few different types of poetry. The song is
"You Were My Everything" by Aviation
This song expresses smilies such as comparing a girl to an angle. he also uses lots of rhyme.
"His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti
He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready
To drop bombs, but he keeps on forgetting
What he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud
He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
He's choking how, everybody's joking now
The clock's run out, time's up over, bloah!
Snap back to reality, Oh there goes gravity"
Eminem- Lose yourself
in this song he is talking about his life and he is rhyming about the different aspects of his life.
Shawty's like a melody in my head its got me singing like na na na na na ever day its like my i-pod stuck on replay. This song by Lyaz has a simile. but while it does that it tells a story also about him in love with a girl.
"Dear Prudence, won't you come and play? Dear Prudence' greet the brand new day. The sun is up, the sky is blue, it's beautiful, and so are you... won't you come out to play?" -The Beatles. These lyrics demonstrate end rhyme. (Play, day, etc.)
99% of songs are poetry. They all need rhythm to flow with the beat. They are all art, and poetry is art. "All the Above" is a good example for this point. The song portrays the artists emotion, his triumph over his humble beginnings. The song also has to flow in order to maintain a quick hip hop beat.a good example of rhythm:
"tell me,
what do you see,
when you looking at me?"
"All the Above" by Maino feat. T Pain
“Hello there, the angel from my nightmare, the shadow in the back ground of the morgue, the unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley, we could live like Jack and Sally if you want, and well have Halloween on Christmas, and in the night well wish this never ends, well wish this never ends. . .”
By: Blink 182
Song: I Miss You
"look into the deadest tree tell me baby what you see. dont you hear the branches cry, asking for the reasons why did they hang so many men from the branches off of them? why did humans make them play with them in their evil way?" my axe by insane clown possse. i think this part of the song is like poetry because its expressing what the author thinks about that topic and its from a different perspective.
Stay Beautiful by Taylor Swift. The first line in this song is a simile; Corey’s eyes are like a jungle. Taylor is comparing that she gets lost in his eyes just like someone would get lost in a jungle. Throughout the song Taylor sings how she hopes some day he realizes that she is the one for him. If you were to just read the lyrics of the song, they seem just like a poem.
"You're brighter than the sunshine" by Aqualung is a metaphor inwhich the band is comparing a girl to be as bright as the sunshine.
" cause when the roof caved in and the truth came out..." in the song whatcha say by: jason derulo shows a metaphor because his kinda explaining whats going on.
"...you get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger...and when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, i hope you dance..." Poetry and songs go hand in hand. Poerty is a way people express themseves and the same with song. Both have meaning behind the words. For this song by Lee Ann Womack, she didn't really sing about being hungry or dancing but the optimism of peoples lives.
It hurts, wounds so sore, now I'm torn, now I'm torn. In the song Hearts Burst into Fire these lyrics are demonstrating assonance. The two words that represent assonance are torn and sore. They have similar vowel sounds but end in a differnt consonant or vowel.
"How I wish, how I wish you were here. Were just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here"
In this song Wish you Were Here by Pink Floyd, they are comparing their lost souls to swimming in a fish bowl. Its compared by saying their souls are lost and cant go anywhere because they are trapped, just like fishes swimming around in a fish bowl.
"And the decades disappear like sinking ships That we persevere God gives us hope But we still fear We don't know" Is a lyric from A Dustland Fairytale by The Killers. It shows simile when they compare how fast time goes by to how a ship sinks, but they still go through life even though they still are not sure of what lies ahead.
