What are your thoughts regarding Sir Ken Robinson's video presentation regarding "schools killing creativity?" In your response, please reflect, think, ponder, question, or wonder. Please complete your this blog response in class.
I agree with him when he says that we can't prepare for jobs in the future because none of us know what the world is gonna be like in even 5 years. I also agree with him when he says when you are afraid of being wrong you rarely create any original ideas and in school today being wrong is one of the worst mistakes you can make. So, in schools teachers should encourage students to not be afraid of being wrong and to be creative. I thought it was interesting when he said the world viewed intelligence as an academic greatness instead of a creative greatness because really we should consider both. He says "intelligence is very diverse" and i definitely think thee world should run the work world with that in mind.
Creativity is important as literacy,if your not prepared to be wrong you wont come up with anything original and people lose that when they grow to adults, we are educating children out of there creativity. There isn't a class that teaches children music, arts, dance, those creative classes even though math means a lot i agree why there aren't classes that teach children at school how to dance and things like that. I think that our students creativities which are being pushed out of our minds should be taught more things such as dance or maybe other skills that keep us fun.
My thoughts regarding Sir Ken Robinson's video presentation were, that he had some great thoughts. I liked how he thought about preparing us for the future. His point is valid we don't know what will come in the future so how would we prepare for it? I liked that he said everybody has creativity but you grow out of it. The whole purpose of education is to produce professors. People find there talents in strange ways sometime "Nobody knows what god looks like, they will in a minute"

Creativity is important in literacy. Schools have always tired to make us think differently about things. The schools would give us specific things to write about and we would have to explain what we think about that topic. If the students got to pick what we wanted to write about we could add more detail and be more creative. In art class when we were little we could draw what ever came to mind. Does not matter how much detail we add or if it was a dragon or a unicorn, but now we have to draw what the teachers tell us and add what the teachers tell us. Schools are killing the creativity of the students. Kendall Saling
I think this video is accurate because in school there really isnt a lot of creativity in schools anymore. Which is sad because i believe in someways that creativity is more important than math or science. Some people love to be creative and are better at being creative than being good at actual school work.
i think that kids should have a lot of creativity as a child, because as they grow they discover more things. so hopefully as they grow older schools need to teach them to not be afraid to ask questions. also schools and most importantly teachers need to teach their students how to be creative in writing, and all subjects. some factors that i believe help are the intelligence of the students, learning abilities, and interesting ways a teacher has to teach.
Kids that are creative seem to be unafraid of failure and creativity requires this quality. But schools are destroying creativity and causing children to be afraid of failure. Schools seem to be trying to make children less artistic and more on mathematics and other similar teachings. Many children are being taught that only intellectually they will get a job and that artistically they will not be able to get a job because it doesn't do anything productive, but many believe that children should be educated in all areas. Not just intellectual teachings.
He stated that from an early age people's creativity was squashed. When you think about it its true. It could be rules, in art in school, and and in life. Sure the world needs rules, or there won't be any balance. The question that is not showing up as much, as we grow up, is why? The statement you used to say when you were five, Why? If we all asked about the sky is color you could get one of two answers, a scientific and an unexpected one. The second answer could be a way of creativity. It is like a painting in the mind. It expresses ones belief.
The video really made me think about where i am going to be in 5 years. I was also interested how no school has classes like dance every day and how kids have more imagination than adults.
My opinion about his speech was that he makes a good point. He made it funny but still made his opinion clear. He used quotes from many influential people. Many highly talented people don't think they are good enough, because of the way we aren't allowed to be creative in school. In intelligence is diverse & dynamic. The main point is that if you aren't allowed to be creative, then you wont reach your full potential and know how talented you really are.
I agree with Sir Ken Robinson's ideas on creativity. He stated that children need to assume that they're not always going to be right to increase originality. Also, he said that public education is basically made for people to become university professors. However, not everyone is going to be one. Intelligence is dynamic, which means creativity allows people to look at things in different perspectives. Most of all, I agree how we learn things differently, for some of us have to move in order to acquire information. I wish schools would provide other ways of learning for different people. Expenses could be a major issue though.
I think Sir Ken Robinson from the video has a point. We are told what to think. We don't really get a chance to be creative. For students to be creative they have to go to special schools. Shouldn't we be able to be creative in a regular school? You are considered "special" if you are creative or different. Schools take away creativity.
Sir Ken Robinson says that we have a future we can't grasp. 'If your not afraid to be wrong you won't be creative'. I think that he is true, and that at the top of the learning chart is math, history, language arts, and science. He is also right how he says arts are at the bottom of the 'chain'. -Bailey
I am with him Kids are born very artistic, but as they get older they are focused on other things and that artistic ability is let go of and forgotten. Kids are steered away from academic ability. They are directed away from things that wont get them degrees. They are forced to focus on school too much and are not recognized for their true potential. He is right that kids aren't prepared for jobs like he said that today when kids get their degree most come home and play video games. kids can't be held back they have to let their creative mind go and not be scared that they might be wrong.
Schools are focusing on main things and as we grow and mature we are only using the part of our brain that is used the most. The creativity of our body, like dancing, etc. is taken away because we are focusing on other things that are tearing us away from the other beauties of creativity. Our creativness starts when we are young and if we don't practice it, we lose it. Just like if you play a sport for half of your childhood, stop; then maybe in 5 years you go back to it, you lose that ability of strength for that sport.
Schools are not developing creativity rather they teach students the "useful skills" Such as math and science. Children at a young age are better at being creative than they are at math and science. So why do schools try to force science and math into the students when they have such a gift of creativity? I wonder what the future would be like if creativity was a focus? Would the world be more advanced would there be more peace more chaos in that future? Would the creativity of ourselves create more weapons and cause war? What would a totally creative world look like?
While being honest, I do agree with Sir Ken Robinson because he had a lot of good points. School's are forcing creativity out of the mind of children. They tell children that they can't make a career out of the objects subjects that they like. "Everybody has an interest in education" was one of the things that he brought up, and it is true.We all have at least one topic that we want to know more about. Sir Ken Robinson brought up ADHD and how they can multi-task. This makes me think about if since they have more thoughts, is that part of the reason why we have so many different inventions?
My response of Sir Kens ideas were agreeing, he is right about how creativity is as important as education because all intelligence is dynamic. School is killing creativity due to our education system that keeps inflating on our academic ability. We need to change our education system because without creativity our world is not diverse and would be very stale.
I agree with him because school is dull to me because we, as students, just have to sit in a chair for most of the day and schools do not let us express creativity often. I believe that I have lost creativity as I grew up because of being told what to do, being told how to solve problems and what to write about and how to write about it. I do not get to choose a topic most of the time, and when I do, there is a certain writing style, such as a topic sentence, a point, a description of that point, and then a conclusion. It is hard to express and exercise creativity with just this type of writing. Art class is great for expressing creativity, but not everybody has art, and even in art the teacher tells you what to draw. Taylor D
This video was very interesting. I like the point that creativity should be equal to literacy. I personally like creativity and wish that art classes should be required. The point that kids are not frightened of being wrong was very interesting. It makes me wonder why we get scared of being wrong as we get older and also how we could overcome or prevent it. Overall, creativity is very important and we need to let kids explore and experience it.
I agree with him when he says creativity is as important as literacy, if you look at adults now they aren't that creative. When you can't be open about something that is wrong, how do you know its right. Everyone should including , teachers and parents, keep motivating their kids to be creative. Also when he said that everyone thinks of academic greatness is stronger than creative greatness, honestly both are important but you cant favor one over the other. They are both as equally important, we need creativity as much as we need knowledge.
Creativity is an essential to the education of young children. We squander children's thoughts and actions. They are intelligent and thoughtful. Grown adults have been trained to think "inside the box" and children do not know. As Sir Ken Robinson said "Children are not afraid of being wrong", so why do we teach them that being wrong is frowned upon and not useful to society. Do we not learn from mistakes? Do we stop trying if we are wrong? Are we ashamed of being wrong? For are we all not perfect with our own faults and actions?
AdamQ- Creativity is something that is important and that kids minds are being emptied of creativity. I think that he is right about the fact that kids aren't afraid of being wrong until they grow older and might be afraid of being made fun of for being wrong. I also agree that education can take you into the future you cannot grasp because without knowing whats to come you cannot be prepared for it. I think that kids will stay away from classes like art and music if they don't think that they will be a musician or and artist later on in their life. Some kids can't learn well without being creative and moving around. Many classes now don't allow those kids to be moving around to much and they keep them stuck in a desk where they can't learn well.
I had never thought about what he said when he said "we are preparing our kids for the future" even though we have no idea what our jobs are going to be and it just made me think how can we prepare for a job that does not even exist. another thing that i was thinking about was how the doctor decided to give Jillian a chance instead of just seeing her as useless and by doing so he gave the world an amazing dancer.
I think that he is correct about killing creativity. We tend to focus on one thing at a time and not letting people express their creativity by multi tasking. He bring up a great point about the dancer and how she wasn’t focused on one thing like education she was focused on dance. By doing this she has created a great life by doing what she loves even though it wasn’t considered normal or the right thing but it has worked out great for her. Sydney F
Sir Robinson's presentation regarding "schools killing creativity" talks about how he believes schools only have one priority. Another main point of Ken Robinson is he believes public schooling is killing children creativity. "creativity is important as literacy"says Sir Ken Robinson. An interesting thing that he said was"degrees aren't worth anything" in this changing world.
I agree with the guy because you cant just guess what the world is going to look like in a couple of years so schools are trying to prepare us for jobs that arent even out yet and i agree i think that everyone around me in smart they just have there own way to learn tram
I agree with him because kids now honestly don't know what it will be like in the next five years and we can't determine what kind of jobs there will be in the future. A lot of kids now are not be as creative as they were maybe when they were younger there starting to get lazy and just take things and copy other peoples writing and aren't individually trying either. When your being creative your showing your own unique way of writing and how you think differently from others.
I think schools sometimes do squander the creativity of children because of the strict education policies of schools and ideals of the world at the time. Also Ken Robinson said we get educated out of creativity. He said that people, as they grow older, are not prepared to be wrong anymore. When educators think they know what their talking about all the time, they could limit kids minds and creativity. Is the saying not “the sky’s the limit” anymore? Ken Robinson said most people were brought up thinking that the things that they were good at at school wouldnt be valued in the world. “Dont play music, your not going to be a musician, Dont do art, your not going to be an artist.” What is seen as not important because it isnt as common or ideal in the world is discouraged by people. Though, the world is in a big revolution and people should start seeing their children as the hope that they are and tend to their creativity so that we can flourish.
I agree with what he said it made a lot of sense about what he was explaining and hes right when he says we wont know what technology will be like 5 years from now. Students are afraid of being wrong, made fun of,or just don't wanna show their way of thinking so thats why their not using creativity. When were in college academics will be more enhanced and it makes me really wonder what the future may hold for my generation.
