Summer Reading Reflection

Over the summer, you were asked to read at least two novels of your choice.

1) Briefly tell me what you read, including the titles and authors.
2) I want to know what you liked about the books, what you learned and, more importantly, what matters to you about the books' content.

*Make sure to adhere to proper conventions and proofread your response. If, for some reason, you did not read two novels, tell me about two novels you have read and answer the above. This blog post must be completed by 2:30p.m. on Friday, August 19th, 2011.

I have read one book this summer. The book i read was Rainbow Six, by Tom Clancy. What i love about this author and which was of course, in the book, was how he jumps back and forth between different scenes like in a movie. This makes me wanna keep reading and i get very into what I am reading. The book was about an anti-terrorist group that ends up in alot of trouble because a group of terrorists attack them.

I read two books this summer, 'It's Not About the Bike' by Sally Jenkins, and 'Artemis Fowl' by Eoin Colfer. I really liked both books for different reasons. I liked it's not about the bike because it showed that even people like Lance Armstrong can struggle with their emotions and feelings about what they want to do, but it was inspiring because it showed you can always work through your problems. I liked Artemis Fowl because it was intense in a different way most action or horror books are. The main character wasn't some crazy commando who can fight off fifty enemies at once, he was a genius thirteen year old who trapped his enemies by outsmarting them, and he would beat their high tech weapons, with his mind.

i read 2 books this summer but they were diary of a wimpy kid so they were not to hard. the reason that i chose those books was because i forgot until the last 2 weeks of summer and i needed to read 2 books really quickly. diary of a wimpy kid is a good, funny and somewhat childish series but is just kinda fun to read if u want a short novel.

I read one book over the summer though I have read it many times before I read Cell by Stephan King. Being by Stephan King the book is of course about horror. The idea of the book is very original though things such as movies and other books have gone off the same basic idea. The basic idea of the book is that technology such as cell phones, Ipods, and other things such as those are turning people "crazy" somewhat like zombies but not really zombies they occasionally do eat things but most of the time they run around killing themselves but I don't want to give away to much of the book on how they stop this from happening. I do recommend this book for anyone who likes horror and doesn't mind so profound language.

One book I read this summer was The Shack by William P. Young. My mom recommended it to me and I wasn't to excited about reading it at first. I had no idea what it was about so I just decided to read it anyway. The book started out very good and intriguing. Then at one point in the book the whole story basically changed from a murder mystery to a weird fantasy. I hate fantasy books and i was really disappointed but I finished the book anyway. For me it turned out to be one of the worst books I have ever read.

I read Tribulation Force and Nicolae by Tim Lahaye over the summer. They are the 2nd and 3rd books in the Left Behind series. They about the rapture that the bible talks about. I really liked the books because they stay true to all the prophesies in the bible. They are also pretty suspenseful and bring you into the minds and lives of the main characters through lots of background information and vivid description. They have great story lines too!

This summer i read My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. This was one of the best books i have read because it showed all of the perspectives of all the characters. The book was about a young girl who was fighting for her rights to her body because her sister who had leukemia needed transfusions and stuff like that. The story seemed extremely realistic. I would definitely recommend this book. The other book i read was Flipped by Van Draanen. I did not like this book as much because it was not as interesting as My Sister's Keeper. Flipped was about a girl who had a crush on this guy who did not like her at all. At the end of the book, the guy had a crush on the girl. I might recommend this book to someone a little younger.

I have read many books this summer but my two favorites books of the summer would have to be "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" by Ann Brashares, and the "The Red Pyramid" by Rick Riordan. They were both great books and very intriguing. "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" was a very girly book but had a very good theme, plus you could feel what the characters in the book were feeling. In "The Red Pyramid" you could see a vivid picture of everything going on the book, it was also very thrilling and easy for me to read, even though it was a long book.

I read a really good book this summer it was called "Heaven is for real." It's about a little boy at four years old has a very big problem. So will hes in the hospital hes parents hope he lives and when he does wake up he has an amazing story to tell hes gone to heaven and back. Hes able to tell the parents exactly what happened that faithful night it all went down that night in the hospital even though he was never told about those things.

Over this summer, I read many books, but the two books that i enjoyed reading most were The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. I also read June Bug by Chris Fabry. What I liked about The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet is it was a historical book, but it taught you about World War 2 through a story about two young people living opposite lives. The book switched back and forth from the past, to the present. You had to do many inferences in order to try and understand the story, but all the pieces came together in the end to end happily, and unexpectedly. June Bug was a story about a girl living her life on the road with a person she thought was her daughter. It was some what a mystery book, but it was also a realistic fiction. What I particularly enjoyed about the book was that nothing I ever expected happened, leaving the book with many cliff hangers and didn't allow me to ever put it down. over all, these books kept me very entertained, and i would definitely recommend these books.

I read three books this summer, and the two of them that really stood out to me were A Northern Light and The Five People You Meet in heaven. Once I started A Northern Light there was no way I was stopping know matter how long it was, it was a good thing I didn't look at how long it was until I started reading it. It was longer than what I usually read and if I looked how long it was I would of put it down right away and not even at what it was about. I will admit there was some slow parts, but overall it was a very good book. It really kept you interested tell the end, and even if you thought you knew what was going to happen you were completely wrong! The Five People You Meet in Heaven was short and sweet. I can honestly say there was no slow parts I loved every part of it. The best thing about the book and thing I loved the most was the lesson he learned at the end.

Over the summer, I read 2 books. One of the books was Flowers in the Attic, by V.C. Andrews and the other was Tuck Everlasting, by Natalie Babbit. My favorite out of the two books was Flowers in the attic. I felt like it was more my reading level and had much more real life meaning. It showed me how some people put their own best interest before the people that they love. As sad as it is it is something that I would change in the world if I could and it made me more aware of the kinds of things that might be going on around me. Tuck Everlasting was a book I found to be very interesting. It raised an excellent point about how the circle of life is something that keeps the world in balance and without it the world would be chaotic. Over all I think my summer reading was beneficial.

I only read one book this summer it was called Fallen Angeles. I'm not sure how the auther of the book was. It was a very good book about a kid who joined the millitary back in the late 60s. He had nothing going for him so he said why not. He ended up hating it because of all of the blood shed and the horible things that happened to him and his friends.

I read two books this summer, "Water For Elephants" by Sara Gruen and "Someone Like You" by Sarah Dessen. I enjoyed both of these books a lot. They both had very simalar messages to me, and that was to never give up and always do what you believe in. Honestly, both of these books had a few slow parts, and that kind of slowed me down a little but I knew I needed to finshed them. I loved how both of these books had a really strong storyline. I learned that no matter how bad everything seems to be, you can never stop trying, otherwise you could lose everything forever.

I read 2 novels this summer. Including Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen. And The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. What I learned in The Book Thief was a different perspective of the German's in Nazi Germany around the time of the Holocaust. I used to sort of believe that they were all pretty cruel and after the same thing as Hitler. I realized this was not the case at all. Some families like the main family in my book, the Memingers were actually hiding Jews. And other families hated that their young sons had to go to war so young. The economy was bad too so the German's may have had it better than the Jew's at the time but they also were going through a different kind of suffering. Not enough food, air raids, and maybe losing their husband or son in the war. The books' content was a little different than other books I have read because the narrator was death. Which sounds very depressing but the author took a different approach at it making the book have a lot of heart and even some humor. And I liked the book because it was very different than any others novels I have read, it was unique and it was about a very important part of history. The other novel I read (Along for the Ride) was a little more girly. I loved the atmosphere of this book. This girl goes to see her father during the summer who lives right on the beach, and of course, Auden (the main girl) meets a summer romance and being a teenage girl, I loved the whole thing. I can't say I learned much from this book because it was sort of more of a just for fun read. The books' content was really good, Dessen is one of my favorite authors so I always just love what she writes.

over the summer I read two books in the same series. The series is called The Lost Books. It is a vaguely christian story, but good nonetheless.
The two books that I read in the series were Renegade and Chaos. The whole gist of the books is that history is repeating itself in the distant future. the world is a desert and humans are back to fighting with swords and knives. The only thing that changes is that evil now presents itself in physical forms, large black bats and a disease on the skin. If you have this disease, you are known as horde. Good presents itself as large white bats that are nice and can talk. During the third book, Renegade, the four heroes travel into the horde city to rescue the main character's mother and find two of the seven lost books. In chaos they travel to one of the black forests and steal a book from a leader shataiki(black evil bat). I liked them because they keep you interested by adding twists and changing things that you wouldn't expect. Overall I enjoyed these books a lot.

I read two great books this summer. The first book I read was Pendragon, The Lost city of Farr by Dj Machale. Of course this is the second book to the Pendragon series and I have to say I love it. The sci-fi theme and the storyline about a 14 year old boy named, Bobby Pendragon who finds out that he's a Traveler, a person who travels to different times and worlds to help keep from chaos by the evil Saint Dane. In the second book he goes to a world where the land floats on water, it's called Coral. Saint Dane tries to tear Coral apart and it's legendary underwater city called Farr. It's an amzing and adventurous book I love. I recommend it! The second book Was Flipped by Van draanen. I love the comedic kid-love story and the different main characters, Bryce and Julianna. These books were amazing and I love reading! I learned that I need to take some some risks and have plenty of adventures. I also learned from the second book that it's better to be yourself and someone like you, then be someone else and have them liking you for the wrong reasons. It's great to read about kids the same age as you because you have more chance of relating to what they are going through. These books definitely changed my mind about a couple things.I'm different and I'm loving it.

Over the summer I read a book my the name of MONSTER by:Walter Dean Meyers. Over all I liked the book. It was good because it was a book but written like a movie style. One of the things I liked most about the book is it never told you if the main character commited the crime of the book or not until the end so it let you decide if he is guilty or not. One thing I did not like is the way it was written. Since it was written like a movie it was hard to read.

I read 2 books this summer. The first book i read was Crispin by Avi. The book is about a kid in the medieval times who has to run away from his village because he is being hunted by his master. While he runs away he meets a rebellious performer who takes him under his wing. A lot of things happen in the book but that is the main idea of the book. It was a little slow to begin with, but the book had a very interesting plot and an exciting ending which made the book very interesting.

The second book I read was "Black Hawk" down by Mark Bowden. It follows the U.S. Rangers in Somalia who had to rescue two downed helicopters. This book is extremely thrilling but also sad. It was a great read and it was interesting hearing from both sides of the conflict.

over the summer i read, Lovley Bones by Alice Sebold. This book revieles a younge girls murder and who she view it up in heaven. she looked over her family, friends and murderer. I loved this book because i love reading mysteries and excited novels. this book taught me to belivve in what is true and not just go with what everyone else is saying.what matters to me about the book is how well it is written. Sebold wrote the book easy enough so it is a general age level but well enough to leave you thinking.

I have read two books this summer. The books I read were A kiss in time, and Beastly both by Alex Flinn. What I love about her is she takes old fairytales an switches it around to where its an older verson. The books were both addicting and had to read Beaslty twice. In these books there is suppense, drama, conflict. A kiss in time is exactly like sleeping beauty but has different characters. And beastly is like beauty and the best but is was more drama filled.

The two books I read this summer was the Hunger Games Part 1 and part 2 by Suzanne Collins. These are about a futuristic world where it is separated into 12 districts. Once a year there is a huge gathering for something called The Hunger Games. Two people are picked from each district, one boy and one girl, to fight till the death in an outdoor arena. The arena is over 70 miles long and is filled with nothing but tools for survival. I liked the fact that there was a lot of action and violence, but I disliked how they had to set the scene for so long because it got very boring. Finally, I chose this book because I have a few friends that talked highly about it and I thought I would give it a try.

I read one book this summer, it was Daniel X, by James Patterson. It was a very good, but fictional book. It is about a Boy, Whos name is Daniel. his parents died in a house fire when he was like 8, and he was only one who survived. The thing that killed his parents was a giant grasshopper from space. Daniel Discovered that he had special power when he was hiding from the big green dude. He sets to find the grasshopper dude, and kills him, it was very cool
