This picture connects to Anthem because Equality is trying to go somewhere great and his society is blocking him. He is an individual in a car, the highway is his life, and the road blocks is his society.
This picture does exemplify a theme within Anthem. The theme that it exemplifies is that there life path is already chosen and they are being forced to go one way or another.
Highway exemplifies the theme of potential to soar and go so many places but that potential is halted by a higher power. The cars have such potential to go flying down that highway but construction and the man in black is stopping them from doing so. In anthem, Equality has such potential to become an amazing inventor and a great scholar but he is placed by his superiors as a street sweeper. His potential has been halted just as the cars were.
I think that the highway is realted to the highway because you do not have any freedom when it come right down to it.. You are being direcected in the direction that they wabt you to go there is no free will or anything of that source.
In Highway the people are all under one order in which the person in all black and are being told to do by someone like the society of anthem always being told what to do and have freedom and go stroll around without getting in trouble.
I think they are the same in a way because the man in the black with no face is only labeled under a job and not as a real person with a name. This is like Equality because is in only labeled as a street sweeper and not as a real person. Overall both men are not seen as individual people but maybe as a group.
Highway exemplifies a theme within Anthem by having the same characteristics as Anthem. The highway is very controlled, a select path, with high barriers and like in Anthem everything is controlled and there are many barriers keeping curiosity out. Further beyond the barrier is a city and just like Anthem, the rulers do not allow you too leave, of for that matter much at all. The city represents the Uncharted Forest
I notice in the image "Highway" that there are only 2 colored cars, purple and blue. I believe that connects to "Anthem" because there are only 2 societies, the men and the women. They are all suppose to be equal, there is no higher or lower class. In the image, they look like they are suppose to be living equal and there is no way of backing out of not being able to live equal.
I think it is shown as a large portion of the way the man is masked and telling the cars what to do. In anthem the council is masked and they tell equality what to do. So the picture is represented by Anthem very well.
The theme between Anthem and Highway is very similar in many ways. One way it is 'physically' similar is the men and women in the painting that are driving the cars all look the same. They all have sunglasses and are very bland. In Anthem Individuality was not allowed so they are somewhat all alike. Another way they are the same is how the image was painted to express how messed up the highway system was. And in Anthem their society is messed up and not well put together from the readers perspective.
"Highway" the painting is am example of a theme in Anthem. I think that the theme is that in both Anthem and "Highway" there is a high amount of control and being forced to do things. In Anthem there is no freedom and everyone is given a certain job and forced to meet the requirements of that job. In "Highway" the roads are very exact and restricted making everyone go in the same direction. Everything in the picture is exact and very organized just like in Anthem. All of the lights are perfectly spaced out.
Anthem shows theme by following a path. Equality's character and his curiosity only increases throughout the book. He goes to finding an area from "The Unmentionable Times" and leaving, to creating something from the things he found from "The Unmentionable Times." Not to mention that his love for the Golden One doesn't fade either.
In the painting, 'Highway' a faceless man appears to be controlling over the destiny of the three cars, who have stopped. The men in the three cars have allowed themselves to be controlled by one man, in comparison to Anthem the Council controls their society and where the people end up. In Anthem, it is a sin for any human to come anywhere near the art of the literature or individualism. The painting 'Highway' demonstrates the fact that a routine for people in the 1950's connects to the society in anthem. In our society, one drives to work, one goes to work, one drives home. They stand in traffic and are used to being controlled by other authority and guidelines (such as lines on a highway) to keep them in a designated boundary. If one thing does not goes as planned, accidents happen, disruption occurs. This is the same for both societies.

In the "Highway" painting, there is a single man directing all of the cars on the road where to go. This relates to Anthem because in the story, the council controls everyone and decides their fate. In reality, we are all directed to whatever path the people more powerful than us want us to take.
I think they are both similar because in the picture someone is controlling on where the cars are going and making them go a specific place. In the book the law controlled what people should do and not do where they should go and not go.
"Anthem" and "Highway" are related because in the picture there is one guy directing traffic and there are really high barriers and it seems like the cars are trapped and forced to go the way the man directs them. This relates to "Anthem" because everyone in society had no choice what they wanted to do and were trapped and forced into doing whatever the council told them. The council and the traffic director are also similar because the council is controlling the fate of the people and the traffic director is controlling the fate of the cars.
Today in class we compared the Highway painting to Anthem. Most of the people who spoke thought of the the faceless man in all black as a roadblock or a symbol of death. I thought the contrary. I thought of this man as a similarity to Equality in Anthem. Everyone in the City was just going on the same path. Going the same way every single day of their lives, much like the people of the City in Anthem. Equality is the man in all black. He’s stepping into the middle of this routine to bring in new, better ideas. But, these new concepts are rejecting him because they don’t like change. They get upset because they are head strong and won’t accept him. I don’t think this comparison is bad, I think it’s good.
I think that Highway and Anthem share the same theme because the man with the hidden face is deciding what is going on, on the highway and the people in the cars don't really have a option of what can go on or where they can drive. Anthem is similar because the people who control the city don't ever give the people who live there a option. They tell them what is happening and they have to follow the rules.

Anthem relates to the picture because it shows how people are being held back from moving on to the next road.
