There are many differences from the movie to the book. One difference is that instead of him getting drunk and passing out they play gentle music for him and he falls asleep. Another difference is that the tricks the cyclops that he has a lot of magic in his brain. Also instead of them hiding under the sheep they dress up as sheep and try to run under him or they just simply escape.
I notice that they use a guy with a flute to keep the Giant asleep and he only gives the giant one bowl of wine and that they don't grab onto the sheep.
The differences, in the book the Cyclops didn't believe in the gods, in the movie the Cyclops did believe in gods.
In the text, Odysseus never mentioned anything about magic. In the film, he tell the Cyclops that if he eats him, then all of the secrets of the world will be lost. In the film, there is a guy playing a flute to keep Cyclops calm. This does not take place in the book.
Although the book and the movie Odyssey are the same, they still have many differences. A few for example are, In the book Odysseus uses the fire to heat up the stake they were going to use to blind the Cyclops. Also in the movie they just ran out while in the book Odysseus and his men hung onto the thick hair on the sheep to escape.
Before the cyclops begins to eat the first men in the movie he argues with the clops about it, in the book this arguing never happened. Before the cyclops wants to eat Odysseus, Odysseus explains about the magic in his head and in the world, this form of arguing never happened. In the book they used the strong liquor to lull the cyclops to sleep, in the movie they use both a flute tune to lull him asleep. To get out of the cyclops' cave in the book they rode under the bellies of the sheep with their skin on their back, in the movie the man with the flute sacrificed himself, and used his sound to move the cyclops away from the doorway. In the film two men were lost and in the book four to six were lost. In the movie Polyphemus' brothers weren't voiced, in the book they were voiced.
The book and the movie are very similar and very different. One difference is that in the book Odysseus does not say anything about magic. Another difference is that in the book the heat up the stake they were using to blind the cyclops. Another difference is that he lost more men in the book. The cyclops brothers also never showed up in the movie.
A major difference was that there were 4 men at the very end of the skit. The 4th man was distracting the cyclopes from killing a man. He sacrificed himself for the other men. Odysseus came up with the idea of holding onto the belly of the sheep, while in the skit, they put on coverings and crawled through the legs. Also the cyclopes brothers never showed up while in the book they did.
In the Cyclops episode, the Cyclops ate only 2 of his many men. Another thing that was different was that Odysseus' men poked the Cyclops' eye out, not just him. Another difference was that his brothers did not show up and ask what happened. A similarity is that the Cyclops' eye was stabbed. Another similarity was that the Cyclops fell asleep after he drank the wine.
Some differences between the video and book is that Odysseus did not pray for a pice of wood. Also the men did not hold onto the sheep to get out of the cave. So what they did was just but a pice of cloth. Last the Odysseus lost more men in the book then he did in the movie.
In the film two men were lost and in the book four to six were lost. In the movie Polyphemus' brothers weren't voiced, in the book they were voiced.
I noticed throughout the clip of the movie that they have him wine which made him fall asleep and man with a flute kept him asleep while they worked on making a stick to blind him and during his escape some of the men but the sheep skin on their backs in order to feel like a sheep
In the book everyone hides underneath sheep to get out of the cave but in the movie only one gets out that way. In the movie the Cyclops believed in the the gods and in the book he didn't. The Cyclops' brothers never asked who did it in the movie and never showed up. Odysseus said that there was magic in his brain but in the book none of that was said.
The differences in the movie the cyclops falls to sleep because the flute player plays gentle movement. Also Odysseus says that he has magic in his brain and if he eats him then all the secrets will be released.
I noticed that in the book Odysseus didn't speak of magic but the video did. Also that one guy with the flute wasn't in the book either. The video also didn't show when the other Cyclops came in to see why he was yelling. Also Odysseus didn't say as much about himself when he was riding away and the Cyclops on said "Father avenge me."
In the clip Polyphemus only said, "avenge me" and not a paragraph of his prayer to Poseidon. There was no prayer to Athena. In the book it said nothing of magic in Odysseus's head.
One of the differences I noticed in the movie was that they played music and got the Cyclopes drunk to make him go to sleep. Another difference was that only one of the men used the sheep wool to go past him and all the others just ran past the Cyclopes. At the end of the clip, the Cyclopes only said to avenge him instead of all that other stuff. At the beginning of the clip, Odysseus says he has magic in his mind that knows all the secrets to the world and that is never mentioned in the book.
In the movie there are many differences such as in the movie only one man tried to escape using a sheep skin, also in the text he losses many men but in the film he only lost two. In the text the cyclopes brothers show up but they never do in the film.
The video was different from the book in some ways. The Cyclopes didn't believe in the gods in the book, Odysseus lost more than 2 men in the book and the men didn't ride the sheep out in the video.
Odysseus says in the movie that he has magic in his brain and that if the cyclops eats him he won't be able to get his magic. In the movie someone else comes up with the idea to use sheep wool as cover. The cyclops opens the door to his cave to call to his brothers who don't come which is not the same as in the book.
Their was some differences from the film and book was, one and first was the cyclopes only hate two men not close to a dozen. Their was also how the brothers never came to the cyclopes and he also never opened the door in the book. Also they all escaped under sheep skin in the book and only one did that.
One difference is they played music to keep the Cyclops asleep so he would not here them sharping the wood.
The differences between the book and the movie is Odysseus tells the Cyclops that he has magic in his head and if he ate him then the magic would be gone forever. Also when the men stabbed the Cyclops in the eye and he stood up trying to catch the men some of the men up a fur coat on their back and they would act like sheep so if the Cyclops did end up picking them up he would think they are sheep and put them down. The last is at the very end of the movie when the men were already on their ship the Cyclops throws a big rick at them and ends up in the Ocean.
There are many differences between the text and movie versions of Odysseus’ run in with the Cyclops. Odysseus prays to Athena for help to deal with the Cyclops in the text but this was never showed in the movie. When Odysseus and his men are stuck in the cave with Cyclops in the movie only 2 of his men are killed, but in the text about a dozen died. In the text when Odysseus and his men finally stab the Cyclops’ eye, Cyclops calls to his brothers and they come to him, but in the movie none of his brothers show. Also in the movie there was a flutist that distracts the cyclops so that the men can escape, but in the text there was no flutist. There are many other differences between the two versions of this tale, these are just some of them.
Some differences in the book and in the video are that in the book, they don't use a flute to put him to sleep. Also in the video, the soldiers cling to the sheep's chest fur, and when he lets the sheep out, they're holding on the sheep, but in the video, they only put coverings on top of themselves. Odysseus also says that he has magic in his head, and if Polyphemus eats him, he won't know the secrets of the world.
There were several differences I noticed between the Odyssey text and film clip. First in the film clip Odysseus was saying different things to the cyclops than in the text. He was persuading him differently. Another major difference was how in the text, Odysseus got the cyclops to fall asleep with a potent wine. Instead in the film one of Odysseus’ men lulled him to sleep with music. Odysseus’ character was portrayed very differently in the film than in the text. A minor difference I noticed was how at the end of the film clip the man that was playing the instrument lured the cyclops away from the door and the cyclops had killed him. In the text that did not happen.
