"So raise your glass if you are wrong
In all the right ways, all my underdogs
We will never be, never be anything but loud
And nitty, gritty, dirty, little freaks
Won't you come on and come on and
Raise your glass!
Just come on and come on and
Raise your glass!" This is the chorus from the song Raise Your Glass by pink. This part of the song shows repetition, and it also uses irony, and some rhythm, and this shows how a song is very similar to being a poem because songs are poems just said in a different way. This is how a song that i like is similar to a poem we see in books.

"Johnny got a shotgun, and he ain't even strong enough to cock one." This is a verse from the song "Bang-Bang" by Dr. Dre. At first, this verse may seem to be promoting violence or crime. But if you listen to the song closely, you'll see that Dr. Dre is rapping about how much violence is in the world today. This verse is actually showing how kids are acting the same way an adult criminal acts. But in the end, they're still just kids. This verse shows rhythm, internal rhyme, irony, and symbolism.

Gotta get get [x3]
Gotta g-g-g-get-get-get get-get

Boom boom boom (Gotta get get) [x4]

Boom boom boom (now) [x2]
Boom boom boom [x2]

[Will.I.Am]
Yo
I got the hit that beat the block
You can get that bass overload
I got the that rock and roll
That future flow

This song has a Onomatopoeia when it say boom boom boom because the use of words that imitate the sound that the poet is trying to describe.

"You'd be the type of act that I would boo off stage while I throw you a tomato
A tough act to follow
But you fooled me, bravo
Can't believe I fell for your bull, Chicago" This is a verse from G-Eazy's song "Runaround Sue" featuring Greg Banks. In the verse rhyming is present with the words tomato, bravo, follow, and Chicago. "So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here." These are the lyrics for Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. This song shows symbolism, rhythm, and style. In many ways songs are just like poems just sung. The songs symbolism is about losing spirit or love depending on the your opinion. That's why in the second verse the lyrics are comparing opposites. Just like how in poetry authors use simile's in their writing.

"This is 10 percent luck, 20 percent skill, 15 percent concentrated power of will,5 percent pleasure, 50 percent pain, and a 100 percent reason to remember the name." by Fort Minor is related to cadence and catalog. In this verse, the rapper is listing off the percentages of doing anything. Going above and beyond the 100 percent. This is also a cadence because the way the words flow is smooth and flows very easily.

"What's Love, Got to Do when I'm rippin all through your whole crew. Strapped like bamboo, but I don't sling guns I got bags of funk, and it's sellin by the tons." This is a line from the song "Machine Gun Funk" by The Notorious B.I.G and it is like poetry because it rhymes a lot and has a certain rhythm. It also has deeper meaning to it and tells a story in a way. It is about how Biggie used to be a criminal but rap saved him in a way and instead of engaging in illegal activity, he writes and makes music instead.

You can take my dry bones
Breathe life into this skin
You called me by name
Raised me to life again

You can calm the oceans
Speak peace into my soul
Take me as I am
Awaken my heart to beat again

This lyric is from the song Bones by Hillsong United. The first stanza shows rhyming in the last word of the second and fourth line. It also shows personification, multiple times. "Breathe Life into this skin." a human can breathe, and God is not human. "Speak peace into my soul" is also a personification, because while humans can speak peace, God is not human. "Awaken my heart to beat again." A human's heart beats, but only God can determine when it does. This song/poem displays great imagery and is very vivid/connecting with the heart and soul. The song has great rhythm as well. It also shows a metaphor, a comparison between calming the oceans and speaking peace into the soul. Meaning, that our souls are as busy and loud as the ocean, but God can speak peace.

"Daddy's writing this song, this song ain't gon' write itself
I'll give you one underdog, and you gotta swing by yourself
Then turn right around in that song and tell her you love her
And put hands on her mother, who's a spitting image of her
That's Slim Shady, yeah baby, Slim Shady's crazy
Shady made me, but tonight Shady's rocks-by-baby,"

This song is When I'm Gone by Eminem and is showing the struggles of wanted to be successful but at the same time loving your daughter more than anything. You need to go out there and write songs and be successful but you need your daughter to know thats its all for her.

"How must you feel up there?
So exalted with such a haughty attitude.
No one's inferior to your wise words, my dearest friend,
Acting as though you have authority to judge.
You do not have permission.
You do not have permission.
Who gave you license to pour hate down throats,
Bringing them a shameful disposition?
Disposition.

No one likes a discouraging word
Slurring out of a drunkard's mouth,
Intoxicated on his own pride.
Intoxicated on his own pride.
How do you feel, safe and secure?
You were wrong.
You judge the faith, lives, and actions
Based on your insecurities.
Words cut like blades to the skin,
Making people numb to the feeling.
Words cut like blades to the skin.
Why can't you realize what you are doing?

Where is their self worth now?
Running miles far away based on your invitation.
Cage your mouth, and listen to your heart.
We are not animals
Nor are you simply worn
We are who we are
From beginning to end.

Don't judge the loved.
Stop hating the hurt.
Quit living for such selfish demands.
If you don't stop while you're ahead,
Pride will lead you to self-destruct.
Kingdom come, no one is done.
All have been forgiven.
We are who we are from beginning to end.

Kingdom come, no one is done.
All have been forgiven.
We are who we are from beginning to end."

This connects to our poetry study by using metaphors. Also uses repetition, and similar lyrics can be found in poems.

Oh, if the sky comes falling down, for you
There’s nothing in this world I wouldn't do. by Avicii is some poetry in it. Some of that poetry is rhyme and that is some and that is shown in the first. Then there is Allusion when it says they sky is falling down.

"Tonight we're flying and we're free
We're free before the thunderstorm
On towards the wilderness
Our quest carries on
Far beyond the sundown
Far beyond the moonlight
Deep inside our hearts and all our souls!
So far away we wait for the day
For the light source all wasted and gone
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days
Through the fire and the flames we carry on!"
This is part of a verse and the chorus of "Through the Fire and Flames" by DragonForce. This part of the song uses imagery. The vision of the sundown and moonlight, going through the wilderness helps explain the imagery of the song.

In the band City and Colour’s song Little Hell one line reads “My war ships are lying off the coast of your delicate heart.” This is a poetical metaphor. Dallas Green, the lead singer is trying to express his willingness to fight for whoever it is that he loves. He’s saying that he’s ready to go to war with these various “ships and weapons.” Dallas is comparing this woman’s heart to a country that may be in need of being fought for to keep. I love the way Dallas shapes his verses and the poetic flow of the words he chooses.

"I'm not afraid"-Eminem. This verse is from the song Not Afraid by Eminem. This verse shows us that even through tough things in our life if we just keep the attitude of I'm not afraid we can make it. This shows imagery and symbolism.

There's faith and there's sleep
We need to pick on please because
Faith is to be awake
And to be awake is for us to think
And for us to think is to be alive a
And I will try with every rhyme
To come across like I am dying
To let you know you need to try to think

This verse from Car Radio by Twenty Pilots means that we need to keep ourselves alive and he explains that through out the song he is trying to put himself in our place. It uses rhyme and symbolism

Money's the motivation, money's the conversation
You on vacation, We gettin paid so
We on paycation, I did it for the fam
It's whatever we had to do, it's just who I am
Yeah, it's the life I chose
Gunshots in the dark, one eye closed
And we got it cooking like a one-eyed stove
You can catch me kissing my girl with both eyes closed
Perfecting my passion, thanks for asking
Couldn't slow down so we had to crash it
You used plastic, we 'bout cash
I see some people ahead that we gon' pass
I never feared death or dying
I only fear never trying
I am whatever I am,
Only God can judge me, now I'm
One shot, everything rides on tonight
Even if I've got three strikes
I'mma go for it
This moment, we own it
And I'm not to be played with
Because it can get dangerous
See these people I ride with
This moment, we own it

I choose We Own it By; 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa. It shows repetition with saying one shot, everything rides on tonight, even if I have 3 strikes, I'm gonna go for it, this moment We Own It. And it also repeats I never feared death or dying
I only fear never trying
I am whatever I am,
Only God can judge me now.
It also shows rhyme with crash and cash.

"We run from the rich and blow down the door. On to the next and dance with the poor. Jump on my shoulders you can jump on my shoulders." This line from the song "Jump On My Shoulders" by Awolnation, shows hyperbole because they don't really mean for the people to jump on their shoulders it is an expression. it means that they are going to help them.

"I can do it
I can do it
I can do it
But I'm only human
And I bleed when I fall down
I'm only human
And I crash and I break down
Your words in my head, knives in my heart
You build me up and then I fall apart
'Cause I'm only human"
This is a part in the song Human by Christina Perri. In her song she uses repetition and rhyming. This is kind of like a narrative poem because she is telling a story of how humans are fragile but still try their best.
