It makes me think how the astronauts imperialized Mars just like America imperialized some countries. I also see that America pushed some of the citizens of the country's America Imperialized out just like the Earth people pushed Martians out. Bradbury address Imperialism by the Earth people setting up cities on Mars.
After watching the video on imperialism, it makes me think about Martian Chronicles. Some of the things that were similar were that the U.S. tried to use imperialism to make the rest of the world like the U.S. just like the people from Earth went up to Mars and started to make things the way it was on Earth. Bradbury is writing how America was imperialist with the idea of expanding to Mars. He addresses this by showing the people from Earth wanted Mars to be exactly like Earth.
It makes me think of how people who think they are doing the right thing are not always correct. Like how the astronauts show up and expect to be honored, but instead they are put in an insane asylum. It also makes me think about how the imperialists show up, without consulting anyone and completely ravage the local landscape. Like with the trees, or in hawaii when the U.S. build sugar plants everywhere.
It makes me think of The Martian Chronicles because people went to Mars because they needed more land and they wanted a new place to live. Which is almost the exact reason that America started to Imperialize in the first place. We wanted to show that we could take over new places which is what seems like is the reason the Earth-people went to Mars. Bradbury shows Imperialism throughout, most of the time there were lives lost when trying to find new land, which is also shown in The Martian Chronicles.
Just like Imperialism in America, humans went up to Mars to form colonies to start a new life on a different planet. Imperialists in the early 1900's wanted to expand America across the world just as the humans wanted to expand themselves onto Mars. Bradbury addresses imperialism by showing that people went to new "land" and started their own cities and towns and didn't really mind the people that were already there.
The Martian Chronicles seems to be written from a somewhat anti-imperialistic viewpoint, as the men who come to Mars are deemed destructive, and if that at all is inspired by reality, the men on Mars are like the Europeans coming to the New World. Landing on Mars is like landing in the Americas; it wasn't really a need to go there, it was more of a curiosity turned to entitlement.
I think there is many ways how the video connects to The Martian Chronicles. One of the ways that the video associates with the book is that the Martians from the Martian Chronicles are trying to get to Mars just like how America was trying to take over other countries. Also I can see how it connects because America was trying to take everyone under their power and make them Americans when people on earth were going to go up and control the Martians.
The Imperialism Video talks about how most of the time they take over for resources and territory. But in the book the Mars expeditions launched not for the purpose for their resources but for their knowledge and to see how the martians lived. The video also mentioned how most of the time other nations want to stay independent and live their lives how they have been in that nation. Just like the Martians on Mars they want to have their planet a Martian only planet, with their own culture.
It makes me think of the people that landed on Mars because they took it over and they are trying to "forge" it to make it what they want. I notice that we took away some of the privileges that the martians had. He addresses it by the humans colonizing and taking over the houses and taking some of the resources there for themselves.
This video is like novel because of the way the Americans wanted to take over the western hemisphere, and the earthmen wanted to take over mars. Also that the humans did not have great resect shown to them, like how the Americans did not have for there countries they are taking over for in power. Also the fact that the Martians had given the humans poor conditions, like the natives living in the countries suffering of sickness and other natives in America also suffering due to the urge to expand as a nation.
The video makes me think of The Martian Chronicles because the main characters are taking over Mars One connection is,People are trying to take over other places on earth
Watching the video about American imperialism made me think about how the Earth men tried to conquer Mars, but only succeeded because they gave them chicken pox, a disease they were not immune to. This relates to how the Europeans that conquered America and drove out the Native Americans and gave them all smallpox, wiping most of them out.
I think it is similar when the video brought up how imperialism helped America out of a depression of depressions to the book. In the book a lot of the people that traveled to mars traveled just to have something new or get away from the Earth. It was also similar when the video said that America was apart of something bigger than itself. Mars is part of the solar system and symbolizes exploration like America does. I also thought about how when America was imperializing they thought they were the best and had to expand. It is kind of like how Mars doesn't really acknowledge humans from Earth when they came.
One way the imperialism video makes me think about the Ray Bradburey book is the way The United States invaded and kind of took over hawaii and wanted to make it theirs. Also the martains are kind of getting pushed around in the book like they were in hawaii. Just as Americans went to Mars from earth they went to hawaii to claim new land and use their resources.
The imperialism video makes me think about the “Martian Chronicles” because when the Earthmen got to Mars, they wanted to take it over and change it right away. America wanted to expand their land by adding new territories which is similar to the “Martian Chronicles” when the Earthmen got to Mars. They weren’t respectful when they got to Mars though. They didn't care about the martians home and culture.
Imperialism is pretty much what happened here on earth along time ago and now in the book too us earth people go into another country or planet and invade and make it ours which is what is pretty much happening in the Martian Chronicles.
Imperialism is a very old concept, and it seems like Bradbury is writing about America taking over Mars. The humans come to Mars for many different reasons, but some may be for resources because of lack of resources on Earth. This is exactly what America did to Hawaii in the late 19th century. It could also be for power and military purposes but there has been no talk of war in The Martian Chronicles, only mention of too many rules on Mars and perhaps threat of revolt. The humans also drive out and kill (if not intentionally) the native population on Mars like they did to the Native Americans in the earlier history of America.
Bradbury shows how when the earth men come to mars, they start colonization and imperialize by building their own towns and culture. just like Hawaii, the martians were basically annexed by the earth men. The earth men are trying to erase the relics and culture of the martians to make way for earth-style structures and culture.
It makes me think of The Martian Chronicles because in both humans think that they can control other humans or the Marshans because of their believes and the way that they view situations. Bradbury addresses Imperialism as a thing that people just seemed to do.
The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury, demonstrates imperialism in many ways. The people from Earth are like the United States, because they both are conquering new land. Both types of imperialism are putting themselves over the others. The Americans thought they were superior over the non whites because of their skin color. The Earthlings think they are superior to the Martians. They demonstrate this by killing off almost the entire species, and disrespecting what they have left behind such as, buildings, towns, canals and changing natural features. Ray Bradbury addresses imperialism by giving it a futuristic look. Instead of conquering islands, the people are conquering entire planets. Although it's in the future, there are still factors that happened in the past such as disease killing of many people. This happened when chicken pox killed off almost all of the martians.
