After Pearl Harbor was truly a dark time for the Japanese Americans. Many people were sent to internment camps even if they were American citizens and/or no longer had a connection to Japan. Everyone outside the camps were told they were very hospitable, but in fact the camps were very unsanitary. In history class, I was surprised to learn that later, after the second world war the U.S. government paid reparations to those still alive that had survived the internment camps.
