Comments, and questions that I had regarding the background film:

Iliad is a battle between the Greeks and the Romans.
Odysseus was involved in the Iliad, a poem about the war.
Patterns in the stories, less irony.
Brave, bold, a liar, and very human was Ulysses (Odysseus)
Homer believed in the necessity of crisis, and his stories involved lots of problems with great heroes to overcome them.
Poseidon is the father of Cyclops.
Why is Odysseus a God, when he is just a very strong human?
Poseidon prevents Odysseus from getting home easily.
The Odyssey, is the trip home from the Iliad.
Odysseus chooses to be moral rather than immortality. He finds that he should live life to the fullest while he is still on it.
Odysseus can be compared to Indiana Jones in the fact that he is a regular, with courage and bravery, and the will unlike any other.
How was the Apollo 13 involved, when the story takes place on a ship sailing away from the Iliad?

There are gods and they try to get married and give out immorality.
It's Greek myth full of greedy and controlling people with monsters, giants, and gods.
The gods think that they are above everybody and give out brutal punishments.

We (humans) think of an odyssey as being a long trip.
It was written based on Odysseus. The Odyssey was the trip home from the battle of Iliad. Odysseus introduces himself to Polyphemus (Cyclops) as “No Man” to protect himself. Odysseus is considered Athena’s disciple. Calypso offers Odysseus immortality. Odysseus chooses scylla over the whirlpool. He knew he was going to lose six men, but he rather lose six men, than a whole ship of men. Odysseus poses as a beggar. Penelope, his wife, picks a suitor that can shoot an arrow, with a certain bow. It’’s Odysseus’, so he’s able to shoot it.

I understand that Odysses wanted to be a human and he wants to get back to his wife. Odyssey is an exaggerated version of our lives. All of us want to be like odysses; lying on our death bed thinking, I lived a life.

An odyssey for them is a long trip to somewhere better. This story could just be tales, as it has been passed down from generation to generation to become what it is now. They explain how crisis shows how a person is weak or strong. People who thrive under pressure are the stronger one than people who just fold. Odysseus gives himself that name because he has an ego and believes in himself to a further extent. They explained that living life even through all the struggles is better than anything else. Finally, making choices between the lesser of two evils to have himself thrive.

Homer’s poem, Odyssey, was approximately 12,000 lines. His writing tells of the first stories of the West. The Odyssey is about Odysseus returning home to his wife. The trip that was planned to take two weeks took ten years. If Odysseus didn’t have as large of an ego, he would not have had to lose all of his men and his ships and take the long trip. I believe that if Odysseus was kinder, his men wouldn’t have been killed by the cyclops. If he had controlled his men with Circe, his men wouldn’t have become pigs. I believe that Odysseus was smart in rejecting immortality, but should’ve left Calypso earlier seeing that he is married. He was selfish in not telling his men that six of them would die if they went to fight Skille. The gods overall were very controlling over the people.

Odyssey means a long series of adventures and hardships. Odysseus is a Greek mythology character who went on an odyssey. He was overseas and wanted to get home. He started a voyage across the sea, but Poseidon tried to stop him. Odysseus stayed determined to make it home and fought through the hardships. When he finally returned home, his wife wasn’t sure that it was him, but he was able to prove himself and regain the crown as the king. The name Odysseus is a good name for him because the journey he went on was a perfect description of an Odyssey.

In the background film about The Odyssey, a lot of different arguments and points were made, and humanity was essentially discussed. It's a journey of hardships with ups and downs. Odysseus was fairly selfish and seemed to make more selfish choices when it came to his fate, but no matter what he couldn't be defeated. The gods attempted to stop him but he persevered and outsmarted his obstacles. He proves he's strong and bold and uses those skills to try to get home. He has a lot of courage to try to get home, and it takes him many years. When he finally reaches home, he's almost an outsider or an outlaw. It seems like another task for him, but he becomes the superstar or center in the end.

Many different points and topics were brought up. Humanity was talked about more than most of the other topics which means that it is probably more important then the other ones. The trip that was only supposed to take two weeks but it ended up taking ten years. The Odyssey is the trip home from the Iliad. Odyssey was basically a exaggerated version of out lives.

What I understand about The Odyssey after watching the backround film is that an odyssey is a long trip full of ups and downs. Odysseus is a Greek Mythical dude who went on an odyssey back to his wife. Odysseus thought the trip would be short but it ended up being super long. His ego is apart of what keeps him going and gets through the struggles of the trip. And when he got back his wife did not know it was him, for he was disguised. Once he proved that he was himself, his wife could reunite while he resumed being king.

Regarding the background film about The Odyssey, I am able to understand the story of Odysseus better. The Odyssey is about Odysseus returning home from a trip that was planned to take two weeks; however, the trip took ten years. Throughout his journey, Odysseus loses all his men, but Odysseus’s men wouldn’t have been killed or become pigs if Odysseus acted differently. In addition, Odysseus follows the Heroic code when he desires to be recognized for his actions. Odysseus strikes the cyclopes in the eye with a stick and doesn’t want to be known as “no man” to the cyclopes. However, as Odysseus appears to want to become a hero, but gives up his opportunity to become a hero. Odysseus rejects the chance to be immortal like the gods to live life as a human. Throughout his life, Odysseus says he would rather live a life with suffering than any other life.

The Odyssey shows the tale of Odysseus' trip back home to his wife after have fighting a long battle with his allies. His trip presents many troubles and conflicts that approach him. Odysseus acts peerless and thinks as himself as immortal. While having the belief of fixing his problems and only risking a few men, he instead is greeted with more troubles from the Gods trying to block the passage home. Once Odysseus accepts the fact later that he is not immortal and in fact, mortal, he chooses to complete his voyage home and live the best of his life. It took Odysseus 20 years to return home to Ithaca. After many choices he chose and realizations he had, in the end he was able t look back and think of how he lived a a very adventurous and somewhat fulfilled life.

I figured out that the odyssey and it means a long trip or a long journey. A lot of these people believed in things that weren't even real because they didn't have the technology or the real science that we have today. There is a goddess that has mortality but she is the one who is in charge of the dead and the dead people. Lots of these gods have a way to understand the value of things and how these gods can understand how to use these things to stay gods.the guy that is a conductor.

In the tenth year of the Trojan War, the Greeks tricked the enemy into bringing a colossal wooden horse within the walls of Troy. The Trojans had no idea that Greek soldiers were hidden inside, under the command of Odysseus. That night they emerged and opened the city gates to the Greek army. They thought was the horse was a gift but it was a death trap.

Regarding the film “The Odyssey,” what I understand is that it is about a Greek character named Odysseus who wanted to travel home after a long and hard battle, however, he faces many challenges, such as after he pokes the cyclops in the eye, Poseidon, the cyclops father, the god of the sea, makes Odysseus’ trip home hard. Because of this, Odysseus spends 20 years at sea. However, his wife never gave up on him and believed that her husband would come back. After many hard years, he comes back and is with his wife.

Odysseus goes on a return trip and he is human. Under the pressure of the extreme we reveal who we really are. 2 week trips can become 10 years with bad leadership. Ego is the want to take credit for something and boast/brag and then feel like you are better than others. Immortality is not what he decides he wanted. In multiple challenges he is given on the journey home he is invited to forget home, to stop living in a way. Odysseus was an image of what some of us would love to be if even on a small scale.

I realize the Odyssey is about Odysseus’ journey home and how he encounters multiple life lessons. Some lessons literally being about life, like when he learned he favors mortality and suffering over immortality. He encountered this when facing the gods who were very controlling and very unpleasant, contrasting our god, God. He also learned survival comes at a price.

I already knew that the odyssey meant a long journey. It shows the story of Odysses's trip back to his wife, after being gone for 20 years. In this era, the people had no logical explanation of why some things were happening. to explain these, they made up greek gods and mythical stories to better explain these happenings.

The odyssey means more than just odyssey trying to get home to his wife but it also show the journey and shows how every action has a consequence.
