Romeo? Gnomeo? And Juliet?
After reading Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, what connections or satirized elements do you see employed within the brief clips we viewed in Gnomeo and Juliet?
Please be specific regarding the play's characters and plot elements:
Capulets, Montagues, balcony scene, Nurse, etc... This blog response is

They made a humorous attempt at retelling romeo and Juliet. It shows the meanings of the book but in a more kid friendly way. A difference in the movie is that Romeo's dad is "dead" and Juliet's mom is "dead" The frog represents the nurse in the movie
These are really similar but they use different scenarios and things like that. The characters are a little different but have the same parts like in the original play. Gnomeo and tybalt are still against each other like they are in the real play with is nice because changing that wouldn't be good for the movie. And having the same resemblance.
I think that this really relates to Romeo and Juliet but also spends more time mocking the rivalry between the Montagues and the Capulets. They also seem to add references from the story that the normal viewer wouldn't understand. You also see the Nurse with Romeo and Lady Capulet.
Has 2 households name Montague and Capulet like in Romeo and Juliet. They have 2 lovers who are separated because their families hate them. The frog is the nurse for Juliet. The short none is like mercutio with Romeo. Tybalt gets smashed like when he dies in the play. When romeo sees juliet they fall in love and like the balcony scene they profess their love to each other and they kiss each other exactly when they meet.
The plot is about the same. They keep the prologue the same, and the fued is still there. They interact with their parents more in this movie. There are competition between the two houses. They meet differently. Juliet confides in the Nurse in both movies.
Some connections between the two are that they have quotes from the play in the movie. They also have the same last name and it takes place in verona. In the movie, they have many references to the play. They also have Tybalt in the movie, just like in the play. The frog in the movie resembles the nurse from the play. Overall, all the characters relationships, plot, and characters are similar if not the same in the movie as they are in the play.

Gnomeo and Juliet meet also by chance in this movie. They are also divided by color.Another thing is that Tybalt and Gnomeo get into a fight but for some reason Tybalt wins. The balcony scene is when she is standing on he post and he is spying on her.
They used the same prologue that was used the book and they have the same colors for the capulet and montagues. There's still a feud that nobody knows exactly how it started. Juliet's nurse in gnomeo and juliet is a frog. The balcony scene that happened after they met was a little different in both but they both had the same idea.
I noticed a similarity with Juliet, her parents are telling her she is delicate, while she insists she's not. Along the same lines, in the novel, her parents tell her to marry someone, and she tells them she doesn't want to. In both films, she is equally as stubborn. In both films, Nurse is equally as sarcastic and totally supports the idea of Romeo. The balcony scene is close to the same and it opens up with the same speech as the movie, slightly changing some elements. although nurse meets Romeo in this scene, she still hides him from the rest of her family.
The biggest connection I saw between Romeo and Juliet and Gnomeo and Juliet is that Juliet's mother is dead, Gnomeo and Juliet are in on their families ongoing feud, and the nurse is even more excited about the love between the two kids from opposite sides.
the fuad and and things aer the same lots of things are the same yet different and things are yet similar ad other tings are different about lots of jokes adnd things.
ther are always jokes and things
Connections and elements that are the same in Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet, and the movie Gnomeo and Juliet is that the characters are the same, and except for Romeo, they have the same names. The Montagues and Capulets also do not like each other. Also, Gnomeo and Juliet share a similar love to the play. Also, Juliet reveals her love for Gnomeo on the balcony, and he says the same.
This is different because there is only a little bit of the prologue and the characters are gnomes. There is still no reason for the conflict. The two families are in a feud for no reason. In this movie, it has a more modern spin on it with no actual duels they just have a lawnmower race. The nurse in the movie isn't as supportive as she is in the book and she is more dramatic.
In Romeo and Juliet it is very dramatic and in this children's movie it is more comical that focusing on the death and sorrow of the real story of Romeo and Juliet. Furthermore the vocabulary is not nearly as complex and also the Characters are hard to distinguish. But the nurse is still sticking him for Juliet. The story is not anything the same because they raced lawn mowers and in the real play the fought with swords and Romeo killed Tybalt. Also they don't call them by Capulet and Montague they say red and blue.
The Montagues and Capulets are separated in the movie by households. The Montagues are known as the Blueberries, and the Capulets are known as Redbricks. Obviously, the two oppose one another, and the car seen at the beginning also shows that the two households hate each other. When the Redbricks claim that Tybalt is "the greatest." I believe this connects to the fact that in the play Tybalt is the best swordsman. Juliet says "What's in a gnome," which is a play on the saying "what's in a name, that which we call a rose."
While in Romeo and Juliet and Gnomeo and Juliet there is a huge difference between human and gnome, but the movie does portray some of the true attributes of the book. In the beginning it has some of the real beginning dialogue, the homes are 2b and not2b, the Gnomes are separated between blue and red hats (montagues and capulets), the frog represents the nurse, and more.
2b and crossed out 2b. Kind of funny representation of the quote from the book. Romeos name changes to gnomeo. The capulets are shown in red and the Montagues are shown in blue. They talk about how romro and Juliet would get married and mix the blue and red. The nurse is portrayed in a frog character. Romeo, instead of scaling a wall, opens a garden gate. The balcony scene was on a water fountain.
I think it is very funny how they make puns about the play. A reference to Shakespeare was when the mailboxes said 2B and 2B crossed out. This is referencing to be or not to be. It was a good movie because they took the ideas from the original play and then made it into something that children would understand. It kept the idea that the nurse/frog was surprised about Juliet liking a “blue” or Montague. I liked that the balcony scene almost ended up with Gnomeo being caught.
There are a lot of connections with the movies. Lots of the same vocab.
Gnomeo and Juliet is very similar to Romeo and Juliet. The overall plot is mostly the same, and most scenes are the same. There is obviously very different dialogue to make it more understandable for the average modern day person. The whole idea of Gnomeo and Juliet is a big comparison to the original story. Instead of having 2 families fighting, it’s the gnomes of different gardens fighting.
This is Matthew leiby. Not sure why it says unknown
This story is set in a much more modern time and instead of being in Verona in Italy, and instead is set in Verona drive. They git rid of Lady capulet and Montague Which I also find very strange. They made the nurse a frog, which I find very strange. They also seem to have gotten rid of Mercutio which is also very strange. The nurse seems to be extremely accepting of the two lovers before the love has even officially started. The entire movie is set in a much more comedic than the book. The balcony scene is much more brief and there is much less talking about love.
I definitely see the similarities. The frog is nurse and the houses are red and blue. Tybalt is still mean and a bully. Almost all the characters still exist. The nurse is Juliet's sidekick and is very talkative. The houses have the same name and the same backstory.
The houses are named the same and there is still the feud. Its got a more humorous and more childish (not in a bad way). There is not as much tragedy and not as much miscommunication. They seemed to skip to the point very quickly which was nice it wasn't dragged on as much as it could have been.
They are still enemies and romeo and juliet keep their relationship a secret. Mercutio still does not know when to keep mouth shot when it comes to his hate for Tybalt. Like the party scene gnomeo and mercutio raid the capulets place with a prank.
After reading Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the stories have the same plot; however, the characters, setting, and dialogue are different. Romeo and Juliet takes place in Verona, but Gnomeo and Juliet takes place in a neighborhood/backyards. In addition, some of the relationships are different. In both stories, the Montagues and Capulets dislike each other, but the movie used “blue” and “red” to represent this.
After reading Romeo and Juliet and watching clips from Gnomeo and Juliet it is clear that both have almost the same storyline. However, these two stories differ in setting, characters, and some of the scenes. In Gnomeo and Juliet, it is clear that it is meant for a younger age group. In this story there was a happily ever after, there was no death, and all of the problems were solved in a funnier less depressing way. However, in Romeo and Juliet, there was death, fighting, and not the happiest of endings. In both of these stories, the Capulets and Montagues hated each other, and in the end, their rivalry is ended by Romeo and Juliet's love for each other.
