What does it make you think about regarding the poem's characters, theme, relationships, and episodes? Please respond with specific support (i.e.-quotations) for your argument. Homer compares the book to a car he used to own. "I'd really like to collect the mail." This was said by Flanders because he was too afraid to go outside due to the war. The mailbox was stuffed with mail. The Simpsons also compared Poseidon to a sailor. The sirens were also really ugly. This makes me feel like the story isn't real at all and not even metaphorical.

They use satire in the Trojan War by showing the multiple massive, wooden animals. The gods are made fun as well as Posiedens reason for attacking Oddeysus. The island of sirens and the island of Circe are made fun off. On Circes Island, Oddeysus eats his friends. The River Styx is rock music. When Oddeyus returns he doesn't disguise himself and kills the suitors easily.

The Simpsons version of The Odyssey makes fun of the actual story by exaggerating some of the characters in ways that make them funny. The gods depicted were Zeus, Dionysus, and Poseidon causing trouble for Odysseus Simpson and his men trying to get home. The Simpson's characters are used to play the characters in "The Odyssey". The video makes some of the characters like Zeus seem less important in how they are nonchalant about their business. This Simpsons episode portrays the characters from the Odyssey as a little stupider and a little simpler. This puts a less serious note on the entire journey by giving it a lighthearted feel. The episode shows each journey and trial the troops went through in a more lighthearted and flat out way. The Simpsons use satire to make the Odyssey simpler and easy to understand.

The Simpsons gave "The Odyssey" a humoristic sense and changed the tone into silly, and explained it in a different way. The characters were the same, but they were more relaxed, but did almost the same things they did in "The Odyssey." The plot was the same, but the idea with the same with just a little bit of different names. The video summed up the story very quickly and efficiently. With some silliness.

In the simpson version homer is more oblivious to things. It made the sirens ugly not beautiful. it makes the odyssey more playful and not as serious.

I both of them, Odysseus and Holmer help with the trojan horse. In the Simpson one they talk about mail but not in Odyssey. In both they don't sacrifice animals to the gods so Poseidon gets upset and doesn't want Odysseus to get home. In the Simpson one they fall for the sirens. In both Penelope has to choose a suitor. In both Odysseus's crew turn into pigs, but only in the Simpson one he eats his crew. In both of them, he returns to Penelope in the end.

Things that mock the Odyssey
Is it about the minivan I rented
Go out and get the mail
they spray paint the population sign in troy
"You struck down Atlantis"
Posiedan is talking like a sea pirate and smoking a pipe
how to pronounce vase
I must be wasted the cloud looks mad at me
The sirens were ugly so they steered away
Who decided to give every crazy an island
Shipmates aimlessly drinking out of a cauldron
Party in Hades with music

The clip in the Simpsons is somewhat accurate to "The Odyssey". It almost mocks the way the journey goes expressed when Homer eats his friends that had turned into pigs on the island. In the clip, everyone was singing and dancing while in reality, it was a brutal journey full of scaredness, and not knowing what is next to come.

the Simpsons changed the odyssey a little. they made the trip seem allot shorter, and when he had to leave circe island it was one really simple easy thing, and when he got back their was no rebellion against him.

The Simpsons episode made fun of the book by saying it was a car, the Honda Odyssey. Also, it makes fun of the River Styx because all of the people there were singing and dancing and having fun. Another way that they made fun of the book is because they showed the gods playing a board game with Odysseus' ship.

In the Simpsons video, they display the foolish traits of Odysseus at an exaggerated level. When the crew drinks the drinnk that turns them into pigs, the drink looks like a disgusting green poison, making fun of how stupid the men must of been to drink something that harmful. When Homer eats his men, it symbolized how his actions and triumphs cost the lives of all his men and how it was directly Odysseus' fault.

The video satires the true bravery and intelligence of Odysseus by really highlighting the flaws and bad decisions that Odysseus makes and makes the events much smaller in importance and time of the whole adventure and journey.

The Simpsons satire includes showing dramatic versions of The Odyssey and the situations that happen. Including when Odyessus comes back to show Penelope that she should not choose any of the suiters, and he shows up all the other men. The Simpsons although a very serious situation was turned into a more comedic situation in the end.

The simpsons portray Odysseus well compared to the book. They were both stubborn and had a lot of ignorance. Some things are different such as the part where Odysseus and his men come across the sirens. Just like the book, Odysseus in the movie was punished by the gods when he disobeyed them. Both movie and book, his men end up paying the price for his action, and the only person who came back from the adventure was Odysseus.

This goes a lot shorter and they also miss a lot of parts from the actual Odyssey. They make everything either dramatic or not good enough and makes no sense. They also try to make things funnier than what actually happened.

When the Simpsons satirizes the Odyssey, they obviously skip over many events of the tale, in order to condense it into a 20 minute episode. They attempt to satirize Odysseus' ignorance by comparing him to Homer Simpson. It mainly replaces the characters from the original epic with characters from the Simpsons, often because the characters in the Simpsons act as an exaggerated version of the characters from the Odyssey, which is it's main form of satirism.

The short clip from "The Simpsons" shows a modern twist on the book "The Odyssey." It has many clips that are similar to the ones in the book, and many that do not correspond. One example of this is when Odysseus and his crew go to the island with the sirens. In the book, they all plug their ears and tie Odysseus to the mass as they sail by. Where as in the movie clip, they are lured to them by their voice, but appalled by their looks so they sail away. Another example of this is in the book Odysseus has to challenge more obstacles such as: the cyclopes, his ship breaking, losing all of his men, and more. Where as Homer overcomes two or three.

This episode is depicting Odyssey as a person that was a drunk and only made one mistake.. This also depicts that he was carless person. He seemed disinterested. When he comes home he seems not worthy enough to his wife and he just wanted too go hang out at the bar. I makes me think of how different peoples perspective can differ, even though they are looking at the same thing.

The Simpsons talked about the book because it had homer in the book title. But it had many comedy effects such as the sirens being ugly to them comparing the book to an old SUV but it showed how he was really buff and when he came back he looked like a normal homer but it showed that his friends died in the film and how far he traveled through to get home.

The story is a lot shorter and it misses out on parts in the book. They are also off about how dramatic and serious things are. Some parts are really far off and they don't make sense. The clip tried to make things funnier than they actually were.

With the Trojan horse it shows Ned as the king. Homer obviously dislikes Ned and it works how they are going against each other. It also shows the Mayor as ques because he is the leader of the town in the Simpsons and leader of the Gods in the odyssey. It also shows Poseidon as the Captain character, both water related. It also plays how the sirens are the hideous Selma and Patty, a long joke in the show. It’s satirizing how the characters are shown as odysseus characters and how the events played out.
