Song: Country Roads by John Denver
"Country roads, take me home to the place I belong, West Virginia, mountain mama take me home, country roads"
Poetry Devices
Alliteration- Country
Personification- roads taking someone home
Blank Verse-No rhyme
Allusion-West Virginia is where he belongs
Ode- Designated to country roads taking him home
Theme- coming home
Song is 10 Bands by Drake
"Shout goes out to NIKE, checks all over me / I need a FuelBand just to see how long the run has been", this relates to some of the poems we read in class by telling us one thing and meaning another.
Song: 13 by Lany
Where did we go wrong? I know we started out alright
Where did we go wrong? I swear I knew we'd last this time
Where did we go wrong? Oh did you, did you change your mind?
How could you change your mind?
Poetry Devices:
Repetition- "where did we go wrong" is repeated throughout the song.
You Can’t Always Get What You Want
The Rolling Stones
"No, you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you find
You get what you need"
alliteration- although alliteration is different words with the same sound or beginning the chorus in this song could easily be put as an alliteration because of repetition in the lyrics by having the exact same sounds and beginnings.
"Don't Stop beileving"
Journy
"Don't stop beileving!"
This represents Allegory because this peice of the song has a hidden meaning, the hidden meaning is to never stop beileving in life.
16ixteen by Brinkz Madoff
Never had a sweet 16
Tired of flipping burgers I was 16
Self made since 16
I think this song has a good repetition, but instead of starting with the same word it ends each with the same word.
"Oh What a Beautiful Morning" - Oklahoma the Musical
There's a bright golden haze on the meadow
There's a bright golden haze on the meadow
The corn is as high as an elephant's eye
And it looks like it's climbin' clean up to the sky
There's a bright golden haze on the meadow (x2) - This shows anaphora because the phrase is repeated to draw attention to what the narrator is viewing.
The corn is as high as an elephant's eye - This phrase is a simile because it is comparing the height of the corn to that of the height of the eye of an elephant.
Song: Rappers Delight by The Sugarhill Gang
I said a hip hop
Hippie to the hippie
The hip, hip a hop, and you don't stop, a rock it out
Bubba to the bang bang boogie, boobie to the boogie
To the rhythm of the boogie the beat
In the lyrics, you can see that the poetic elements are onomatopeia and rhyme.
"If we bump into each other on the crowded street,
It's not us no more, its just you and me"
- Marc E. Bassy, You and Me
It shows that someone is trying to stop thinking about someone they probably had a relationship with. It is poetic by having a free verse. It contains allegory because it allows you to take the hidden meaning as your own thought.
My Own Thing
Chanetherapper
Please don't hit me in my DM
Promise that my BM gonna slide when she see 'em
I know she gonna see 'em 'cause I'm defa finna show her
Take her to the culprit
Then I take her to the store
These lyrics have good repetition and rhymes
In the song "Be Alright" by Dean Lewis, the lyric "and everything deleted like the past, it was gone." The lyric is a simile because it says something that isn't possible, but uses the word like comparing it to something.
"See You Again"-Tyler The Creator
"You live in my dream state
We're lowkey my fantasy
I stay in reality
You live in my dream state
Any time I count sheep
That's the only time we make up, make up
You exist behind my eyelids, my eyelids
Now I don't wanna wake up"
This follows ABBA and ABCB patterns.
song:Fine China by juice world
The world on drugs
Ten (yeah) thousand dollar plates
Thousand dollar plates
Thousand dollar plates, fine china
Shawty like a, uh
You can see onomatopoeia and rhyme.
"Right now I know that I'm not really worth it
If you give me time, I could work on it
Give me some time while I work on it"
-Song- Star shopping
It shows a repetition of the 'give me some time' and the lines end with the same word
"Don't you tell me what you think that I can be
I'm the one at the sail, I'm the master of my sea, oh ooh
The master of my sea, oh ooh"
Believer, Imagine Dragons
It's telling you to be who you want to you control yourself and don't let other people control you.
how rare
and beautiful it is
to even exist
Saturn by sleeping at last
it kinda rhymes
There's a spider web where you used to live
By the front door, and I'm wondering if
An itsy bitsy part of me got lost in it
And between the broken wings
All of the I love you's and the empty things
Somewhere in those silky strings
An itsy bitsy piece of me got lost
In this I notice the freehand verse, how it’s linking for “sentences” but into three lines. I also notice a rhyme scheme in the 1st and 2nd four part verses in the song. I also notice the expedition of “got lost”.
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies,
fairy tales of yesterday will grow but never die.
The Show must go on By Queen
This verse of the song includes a simile, personification, and expresses lots of emotion.
In Old McDonald had a farm there is onomatopoeia because there is the noise of the animals when he has the animal.
Jack Tupler
Song My Own Thing
Chance The Rapper
Please don't hit me in my DM
Promise that my BM gonna slide when she see 'em
I know she gonna see 'em 'cause I'm defa finna show her
Take her to the culprit
Then I take her to the store
This first verse shows poetry because the lyrics have rhymes
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
These lyrics are from “Don’t Stop Believin” by Journey. This is an example of anaphora because it uses some twice in a row.
"Runnin' away from you takes time and pain, and I don't even want to." you said by lil peep. this line has a simile i think
She packed my bags last night, pre-flight
Zero hour: 9:00 a.m
And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then
I miss the Earth so much, I miss my wife
It's lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight
Elton John - Rocket Man
This is an example of metaphor because throughout the song, space is used as a metaphor to represent that he has distanced himself from his wife and everything he knows with all of his choices.
can i kick it by a tribe called quest
can i kick it? yes you can,
well I'm gone, go on then
can i kick it, to all the people who can quest like a tribe does
before this did you really know what life was?
comprehend to the beat for its why cause,
gettin measures on the tip of the vibers,
rock and roll to the beat of the funk fuzz
wipe your feet really good on the rhythm rug
This song uses the iambic meter and when it says wipe your feet really good on the rhythm rug it means they want you to get into the mindset of their beat and rhythm style in the same way you would enter a house metaphorically.
This is the life,
This is the life
and its true.
This is the Life by Two door cinema club
This song shows emotion and also happiness. It showed me to look at the bright side of life and see how amazing it is.
Lil Peep - Skyscrapers
[Chorus]
Hotel rooms and skyscrapers
I got a new pair of shoes to impress her
She fell in love with the devil, the worst
Love now, cry later, it hurts
Hotel rooms and skyscrapers
I got a new pair of shoes to impress her
She fell in love with the devil, the worst
Love now, cry later, it hurts
This is an example of euphemism because he mentions the devil
This is an example of a euphemism because
XO Tour Lif3 - Lil Uzi Vert
I don't really care if you cry
On the real you should've never lied
Should've saw the way she looked me in my eyes
She said baby I am not afraid to, die
Push me to the edge
All my friends are dead
Push me to the edge
All my friends are dead
Push me to the edge
All my friends are dead
Push me to the edge
This is an example of a euphemism because when he says, "All my friends are dead" he's not talking about his friends passing away. "Dead Presidents" is a term commonly used in rap/pop culture as a euphemism for money, because past presidents are on dollar bills. "All my friends are dead" means that money is his only friend. Which is sad. lol
Best friend- Rex Orange County
I should've stayed at home
'cause right now I see all these people that love me but I still feel alone
Can't help but check my phone
I coulda made you mine
but no it wasn't meant to b and se I wasn't made for you
And you weren't made for me
Though it seemed so easy
This is an example of an allusion because when he say " 'cause right now I see all these people that love me but I still feel alone" he is slaking about the he is around people he still feels alone. This can be referring to depression and how it has effected people even when they are always around people.
Too Many Years- Kodak Black (ft. PnB Rock)
I done gave the jails too many years
Years that I wont get back
And I swear I done shed so many tears
For people that I won't get back
This is an example of rhyme and repetition. The rhyme is when it rhymes years and tears or says back twice. The repetition is "that I wont get back" at the end of lines 2 and 4 in this case.
red-taylor swift
Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met
'Cause loving him was red
Yeah, yeah red
We're burning red
This is a smilie when she's says forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met.
EVA STRATFORD
Black Flies- Ben Howard
All I am is the bones you made for me
Just driftwood for the sea
Heavy as the horses, that carry me away
That carry me away
No man is an island, this I know
But can't you see?
Maybe you were the ocean when I was just a stone
This is euphemism because he's not actually a stone he's referring to the pain of loving someone more then they love you, this person was his world and he meant very little to them.
