Roemo? Gnomeo? And Juliet?

After reading Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, what connections or satirized elements do you see employed within the brief clips we viewed in Gnomeo and Juliet?  Please be specific regarding the play's characters and plot elements: Capulets, Montagues, balcony scene, Nurse, etc...  This blog response is due by Fri., May 17th at 3:31p.m.

The movie is obviously a comedy with non-serious characters that are used for comedic relief. Instead of Verona the city is is Verona Drive. The only characters that aren't garden novelties are the owners of the houses. There are new characters that weren't in the play nor movie. Tybalt is a big, mean gnome in the animation.

Gnomeo and Juliet show the somewhat modern version of how this story (Romeo and Juliet) would go, although the main feud that's going on is between garden gnomes. In both stories, there's a born feud between the blue (Montague) and red (Capulet) families.

Gnomeo and Juliet incorporate many of the small and big details from the story Romeo and Juliet. Including paint and sock to demonstrate the mask party, some opening scenes to show the hatred between the two families. They then recreate the balcony scene with Juliet up top and Gnomeo down below as Juliet rants on about her love for Gnomeo just as she does in the story.
