The Odyssey is a continuation of Homer's other poem, The Iliad. The Odyssey takes place as Odysseus is traveling back to his homeland, Ithaca, as well as his wife, Penelope. He doesn't want to fight for 10 years before he has to go home, but things keep going wrong and he ends up having a long, gruesome battle that keeps him from returning home. This poem is the first known "action-adventure" type of literature, which I think made it very popular. I also think that the portrayal of the gods in this poem widely appealed to the Greek public.
The Odyssey is a continuation of Homer's poem. The Odessey takes place in Ithica. Odysseus goes to the Cyclops cave to fight him over a woman. Odysseus did not want to fight for very long. He ended up fighting for ten whole years and met multiple gods and monsters he had to fight along the way.
Odyssey is a reference to journeys. This word can be applied to anything in life because life is a journey with lots of twists and turns. The author of this book believes in the idea that failure is a necessary aspect of life and discovery as demonstrated by the failures and lessons that are encompassed in the hero’s journey. The cyclops could represent challenges that one faces. The long period of time as which this takes place represents one’s longing to return home after time. These elements of the story represent a life journey through the story of these fictional characters. These gods were at one point the explanation for forces of nature that have now been proved with science. These explanations demonstrate a person’s desire to formulate explanations for what is unknown. Changes in one’s path can lead to a change in a destination in life.
I understand that The Odyssey was the first action-adventure story.
The main character, Odysseus is very human and I predict that he might be relatable.
In one of the events in the story, Odysseus's crew stops at a cyclops' cave to get some food. However, some of the crew members are eaten by the cyclops.
When offered immortality, Odysseus rejects it because he wants to live his life and enjoy it.
When Odysseus gets past the sirens, he has to make a tough decision. He has to either get through a whirlpool and risk getting his entire ship destroyed or go through a six-headed water monster named Scylla, who lives on in a cave, which may risk the lives of 6 of his men. He ends up choosing Scylla and low and behold, he loses six men. This story represents how we have to make lousy decisions in our life.
Its is about Gods and the Trojan war. There's a one eyed giant. He call himself no man something. He is self, he is individual. He screams at the giant "I am Odysseus". Odysseus battles mystical creatures and faces the wrath of the gods. He is forced to join the war. His journey takes ten years. Took Odysseus to twelve different destinations. Poseidon represents the force of nature. The "gods" don't suffer but the humans do. He learns what it is to be a human belong, He's offered immortality.
from when the people went to the moon, people named the ship odyssey. Holds son in front of a plow so he will fight for 20 years and if he didn't his son would die this is all because of a woman that was taken away. Oddesy is all about adventures, apollo 13, Christopher Columbus, trojan war, etc. Odysseus was taken for 2 years and did not try to run away.
What I understand about the Odessey so far is that its about Odysseus who goes on an ego trip around to a bunch of areas where he loses all his men and all of his ships. But he goes on all these journeys where he lives out his life as a mortal. This whole story was designed as an attempt to explain the past and the science behind the world. He faces all sorts of different challenges that all try to get him to die or not go home or forget home. But he learns life is better than anything. He wanted to be able to say that he had lived his best life and that shows what everyone else wants to do.
I understand from this video that Odysseus is seen as a hero among people, and he seems to always have something to prove. Odysseus seems to be very brave and daring as well as human, not just physically but mentally. He wants to live as a human and live like a human would and he wants to return home, although he is unable to. He is invited to forget home and to remain where he is, but he learns throughout his journey that living with trials and pain is more valuable. A theme in this is homecoming, as coming home from what is different is almost always pleasant. Odysseus owes his own survival to his own intelligence and perseverance, he lives an intense and fulfilling life, and many wish they could say.
Odyssey is sometimes described as a long trip, Or an adventure. It was originated in the trojan war. These stories of Odeesius are some of the first stories we found about the west. The odyssey of Homer describes a man named odeesius that was drafted and was a ruthless soldier. That tells a story about the trip back from the war to his wife. The voyage from troy back to his homeland should have taken 2 weeks but it took 10 years, They landed on an island where they met the cyclopes and most were eaten. After they poked out the eye of the cyclopes blinding him. The giant's father was Poseidon, He was enraged about his sons blinding and he makes Odeesius wander the seas for 20 years. He ends being the only one that returns to his homeland for the fact that his men were turned into pigs for being rude at the sorcerer dinner table. Odeesius is offered immortality but he rejects, he wants a normal life. He believes life with suffering is better than anything else.
Heros are not always seen as ones who would lie but many lie to be seen as a hero. Two week trip took over 10 years. This suggests that his focus was not on his country but on himself. He learns what it means to be a human being and that he should not ask for immortality. He also learns that life is more important than anything else. The theme of homecoming is popular among many. Penelope postpones the marriage. Odysseus is able to string the bow when all the other men can't. He teaches all to live their life to the fullest.
Based on what was shown to me in the video I think the Odyssey will be what I am expecting. With the fighting and the greek myths. I also think it might relate to Anthem based on the Greek meaning of "ego" and how Odyssey is embarking on a long journey the find himself and what he really wants in life.
From what the video was showing us about Odyssey is that it might not be a lot like what we might be expecting. It shows the ways they fought and how heros are known as heros in a perfect world that might happen. They all want to fight the trojans because there is a beautiful girl they ant and that shows that they have some heart. I can relate this to when in other grades I learned about Greek mythology and it is very interesting. Comparing Indiana Jones and Odyssey shows how they go through challenged and how they handle these challenges.
I know that the its about the the trip back home from a war that he was force to go to but many different things try to break him down to make him not return home
This story seems like it will be about some type of a greek myth or legend. Odysseus is given a tough task and in every greek myth there is usually something the hero has to face or overcome. It was very interesting when the video talked about the two greek gods, Poseiden and Athena, and how they represent the different things in the Odyssey. When Odysseus is faced with the hard decision of the whirlpool he has to decide if he wants to continue his journey even though he will lose six of his men. Another example of a test was when he strung the bow that no one else could. All of these things may lead us to think about how this story could be an example of greek mythology.
The odyssey is about the journey back from the battle of Troy, cyclops father poseidon angry at Odysseus, strikes him down and makes him go on a dangerous journey back home through many trials
