I think that it is good to know that my parents mostly agree with my values because it shows that I won't be fought against as much with my choices later in life. I think that this is actually the opposite of Romeo and Juliet's situation because they both had much different ideas of their perfect match than their parents. For example, they both loved each other for who they were, but the parents disapproved mainly because of their background and family ties. This makes me very grateful that in our lives today we have much more freedom than back then when they didn't have very much say in who they married.
This relates to Romeo and Juliet's situation because what their parents want is different from what they want. They have a completely different set of traits that they believe are the perfect match. On one hand the parents of Juliet think that what they think about what traits their daughter likes are in line with those that she wants. In reality, Juliet doesn't think that her parents know best and she feels that she needs to follow the traits that she thinks are in her perfect match rather than the traits that her parents think are best for her.
I am happy to learn that my parents agree with me on what my perfect match would be. It is opposite of the Romeo and Juliet situation, because their parents did not want them to get married. It makes me happy about my parents. Even if my parents didn't agree with my choices, I would still girls I want to date, because it is not their legal right to decide that.
The completion of the "Perfect Match" handout shows different standards and ideals between parents and their kids. This relates to Romeo and Juliet's situation because each of the lovers' parents had ideas of who they wanted their son/daughter to marry. This makes me think that parents and kids have very different ideals in relationships and that parents tend to disagree more often than thought.
For the "Perfect Match" handout, I put very general things like attractive, funny, likes books and movies, athletic, and outgoing/confident. But my mom took the assignment very seriously and took a long time. She put things like someone that makes me happy and someone that is nice to me and to others. This relates to Romeo and Juliet because Juliet's father is giving her the choice to choose someone she loves and that's what my mom said.
I believe that for a lot of people, they are obligated to be with specific people based on like religion or beliefs or anything really, which connects to Romeo and Juliet because they had to be together in secret because they were going against their parent's beliefs. In society today, some parents can be the same way because that can be the way they were taught and what they were forced to do. Now, everything that used to be discriminated against is being a little bit more accepted and most parents just want their kids to be happy no matter what they are.
At first, when Mr. Trotter assigned the assignment, I had no interest in hearing what my parents would want for me, for fear of they would confuse me with my identical twin brother. They have confused us a lot and problems have been created because of it. This might relate to Romeo and Juliet's situation because they were both afraid of what their parents might think of a "perfect match". I followed through with assignment and allowed my parents to write their thoughts. Their idea of a "perfect match" for me, had many of the same characteristics that I had put, although many characteristics differed too. I haven't read Romeo and Juliet so I don't know how this could relate in the rest of the book. This however made me reflect the stress and worry that Romeo and Juliet must have faced when confronting their parents.
Regarding my completion of the “Perfect Match” handout there are many things that I think about what my parents said about me. The good thing is that I knew that they were going to write very similar things to what I wrote and they definitely did. They actually wrote a couple of things about me that are really good that I had never thought about before. Since we had very similar traits that would describe me, they would also have a very good idea on what my perfect match would be. My experience relates to what I know about Romeo and Juliet because both my parents and I had very similar traits on my perfect match just like Romeo and Juliet had. The only thing that is different about my parents agreeing with me is that Romeo and Juliet’s parents didn’t agree with their choices on their “perfect match” which for Romeo was Juliet and for Juliet was Romeo. Also, many kids in the class had their parents agree with what they said so this shows how much it might of changed with parents standards of their children and their perfect matches.
After completing the "Perfect Match" handout, I found that my parent and I shared a lot in common with what would be good for me to find for a significant other. Unlike Romeo and Juliet, I found that I agreed with my parents with the person we both want me to marry. I also think we are different because I would not have to hide a girl from my parents because if they weren't good enough to impress my parents that would be a deal breaker for me. I was happy to find that my parents agreed that my wife should like sports and love God, as these are two important things in my life that I want her to have as well.
Regarding the “Perfect Match” handout, it is essential to share that the physical traits do not matter as much as the personality of a person. Personality traits such as confidence, ambition, intelligence, sense of humor, and kindness are most essential in a “perfect match.” My experience relates to what I know about Romeo and Juliet’s situation by knowing that my mom put similar traits to mine, but took more time. This makes me think that my mom just wants me to be happy like Juliet’s father is giving her the decision to chose who makes her happy.
After completing the “Perfect Match” handout the my biggest takeaway was the difference between the time my parents took completing the sheet and the time I took. I found that it was far harder for me to complete the sheet then for my parents. I spent a lot of time figuring out what traits I looked for but my parents seemed to have it figured out already. This possibly could have been because I am the youngest in my family, or that my parents have done this exercise before. Other then that my answers aligned with my parent’s and we seemed to have the same ideas about what is desirable as many of my classmates mentioned in the class discussion. I think this would also occur when looking at Juliet and her parents. I think that their characteristics would have aligned, but the name that followed Romeos was the problem.
I personally can’t connect to Romeo and Juliet together, thankfully, but I can relate to not following my parents ideal plan for me. It has never been an issue whether my parents enjoy who I am dating, because I don’t want to date. I don’t have an ideal person to be in a relationship with, and I don’t desire the classic love story. On the other hand, I am the oldest, and I can tell my parents might want me to settle down into family someday, and that is the point of dating, to settle down into marriage. So like Juliet, I don’t want to follow this plan made by my parents, but unlike Juliet, I don’t want a relationship at all. Doing this small project opened my eyes and gives me more empathy for each character.
This handout helps us realize what people like in someone and it relates to the book. This relates to Romeo Juliet because this is a love story and we needed to say what our match would be so it's like Juliet was about to marry this person and she realized she liked someone else because she found the perfect match. This paper makes me think to make sure it is the perfect match and not somewhat perfect. This makes me realize you have to be sure of something before you do it. This handout was very helpful to make you realize what a perfect match would be. This handout made you think how this relates to Romeo and Juliet's play. This handout helped us a lot to connect to the book and make us think before we have read this book. This helped me know what my parents thought a perfect match was too. This handout was very helpful before reading the book.
My parents and I agreed on most things when finding the perfect match. I think it is important for my parents and I to agree because later in life I know what kind of boy to bring home. I won't bring home a boy that will cause conflict in the family. Reflecting on my parents views and mine I see the importance of having the same ideas for a perfect match. I think it is important for your parents and you to have the same ides because then you won't worry about bringing home a guy who is not good enough. It is hard to compare my situation to Romeo and Juliet because we live in a different time where even if you did not completely agree the outcome would not be so dramatic.
For the "Perfect Match" handout, the main things that I look for in a person is someone who is caring, trustworthy, hobbies that I like, my height ish, someone who is attractive, funny, successful, athletic, and someone who is smart. My parents agree with what I say, someone who is full of all those things. This relates to Romeo and Juliet because they each fell in love with each other's personalities.
For the perfect match worksheet my parents and me had some similarity and differentiates. Overall, we all had a similar idea. Both of us said for me to choose a guy who I would want to spend the rest of my life with. This relates to Romeo and Juliet because the Dad wants her to find someone who she truly believes will love her. That is what my parents wish and probably many others too.
For the "Perfect Match" handout, I learned that my mom knows me better than I know myself. She wrote out a list of things and after I looked them over, I was just like "Oh yeah, I want that...I forgot about that." This, to me, was significant because I always think I know best. I think this related to Romeo and Juliet because parents have opinions, too. Juliet thought she knew what she wanted and her parents thought she knew what Juliet wanted, and Juliet wouldn't open her mind.
