The Romeo and Juliet commercial helps modernize the story of Romeo and Juliet. This makes you think about the timing again of the story how the two lovers died because of a small flaw in the friar's plans. It helps me consider how quickly the mood of the story changed.
It tells the same story in a much shorter amount of time, with the main difference being that they are communicating through cell phones. It makes me wonder and rethink how fast Romeo and Juliet fell in love with each other.
The commercial takes a funny approach to the very tragic story of Romeo and Juliet. The commercial makes you consider the true foolishness of the feud between the families and see how immature either family is acting. The play takes much more time to prove the validity of the love between Romeo and Juliet, while the advertisement makes the attraction seem much more shallow and funny. By reading the play we understand the reasoning for the actions of Romeo and Juliet, while the advertisement does not allow a viewer who has not read the play to understand the seriousness and meaning of the play.

It makes you consider what would have changed if they had phones back then. Even though Romeo and Juliet had communication in the commercial, they both ended up dying.
I think that this commercial portrays the Romeo and Juliet play as almost useless and not very smart on the part of Romeo and Juliet. It also portrays that even with technology,the outcome of the play would still be exactly the same because they would both die along with Paris and Tybalt. At the end the Friar also says 'kids' almost in a disappointed way. This made me feel that they inferred that Romeo and Juliet's actions were silly because they were younger and didn't know how to deal with situations like the one they were faced with.

This affects their lives because the actors in the commercial could only talk into their phone, not just face to face with each other. This is not only a funny, humorous commercial but also a very important commercial because this classic writing and play was transformed into a play that illustrated what the people nowadays lives are like. Always on their phones, not with their friends. And when they talk to them, it is over phone, not just talking face to face with them. If they have a friendship it’s because they like each other so they should be able to confront each other and talk. This small commercial makes me think a lot about what our lives are like today and how much technology influences but in most cases can get in the way of human interaction.

Also due to the short time frame of the commercial the drama in the play is accentuated. It makes it seem as if there is no reasoning behind the ideas and actions and there is only crazy dramatic reactions. However, while the commercial may seem different from the play it also depicts how many people view the play, showing a wide misunderstanding of not only the plot but the substance behind the plot. It was two people who barley fell in love but thought when they were apart it was the end. It makes me think about how young teenagers can take love too far. We think we know everything going on but in reality we are swept up in the moment. Rome and Juliet's romance happened too fast too soon. The Nextel people showed how Romeo and Juliet never really communicated they talked through a device, except in the story the device is the Nurse and Friar.

The quick pass of the commercial allows the audience to consider how everything went wrong in the play and because of it Romeo and Juliet died. The commercial also does a great job explaining the emotions of the main characters during the play. Romeo and Juliet themes seem to be don't think too brash, which ironically argues against the product, because they want you to buy their products and not think twice.

For example, Romeo kills off any of the people that try to stop him from his love with Juliet, but in a faster and more comedic way. The same thing happens with Juliet. When she doesn't want to marry Paris, she is niave and drinks a potion that will make her appear dead. In the commerical, it makes it seem like a ridiculous move because she wakes up two seconds later saying "All better!." As a whole, the commercial makes the play seem like a joke almost because it seems so ridiculous.

The speed of this is incredible, yet still seems to summarize the play. After reading the play, it was very easy to follow. Even thought this was a tragedy, the commercial still seemed to have humor in it. They "update" the play by providing them with communication (even though the same ending resulted). This commercial made me consider the length of the actual play. Some would argue that it is a very long play, but I think that the play needs to be that length to have the same effect. Obviously with a shortened time, the meaning is changed into something nonsense even though it was still summarized. I think that Nextel used this play because how familiar it was, and it is a good example of people who want to be together. Their product was supposed to prove how Romeo and Juliet would have used it.

They kept the old costumes and accessories, but added cellphones to add more ¨modern.¨ They made fun of the real story by adding these cellphones to give them their little communication. The ending was where they made most fun of by how Juliet takes the potion and Romeo was like no, and he drinks the potion, and she wakes up and says ¨I´m better now.¨ She realizes Romeo is dead and she stabs herself. Mainly the end and beginning of the commercial was where they made fun of the ¨Classical¨ story.
The commercial of Romeo and Juliet was a humorous way to show the miscommunication of Romeo and Juliet. The whole commercial plays through the entire play, making fun of how Romeo and Juliet happened and adding a modernized version of the play. I think this showed me how the timing of the play was, because everything was off and everything was ALMOST just in time. But it was always a few seconds or minutes off.
