Shall This Pass In "Anthem?"

How would This Too Shall Pass and White Knuckles by Okay Go violate the societal norms set forth by the councils in Anthem?  Looking beyond the obvious, how do the videos exhibit the antithesis of what is valued in Anthem's society?  Would Equality be pleased with Okay Go's performances, designs, and visions for their music and art?  Please include one quotation from Anthem within your response to prove your view(s). This blog response should be completed in class after we view the videos.

Equality would approve of what these guys are doing because it is breaking free of doing things in the normal fashion or the regular way. They are trying to make a very simple task very complicated and make it very interesting. They are also being very selfish by destroying expensive objects and causing harm to objects and self but it is used for benefit. This is kind of what Equality does, he tries to break free of the normal way of doing things.

This violates the council of elders ideas because the members of the video are working as a team and using trial and error to create the machine. In Anthem new ideas are opposed if everybody didn't agree on them, but in this there had to be some new ideas to make sure the invention worked. They also made a way to do something that would be more complicated. In Anthem they made it harder by using candles rather than taking his idea of electricity. Unlike the video, in Anthem new and creative things are not allowed which is opposite to the video.

This too Shall Pass would not pass in Anthem's society because it is different and complex when in Anthem the Council would rather have everything happen the same way and be simple. I think that Equality would really enjoy Okay Go's art in both videos because in Anthem they tried to be different and a little rebellious and I think that Okay Go was doing the same because their videos are very original and do not follow social norms themselves just like Equality in Anthem.

The team is working together to make this video but that is like the opposite of what equality teaches. This is being kind of selfish because it is wasting things and it is not what most music videos are like. Equality would like it because it is different. Many people do the same things, but they did something different.

I think that equality would have mixed feelings on this because they are all working towards a common goal, but they are also doing things their own way, and not following any set rules. I do believe he would like their music because there was no music in the society previous to his current way of life. I also think he would love the Rube Goldberg one especially since they used all kinds of new technology to create that video.

Societal norms from "anthem" is violated by the wasting of materials and the creation of something unique. Equality would applaud this because he too likes creating things and he likes to be different and independent. His Society thinks that It is a bad thing to be creative and that it should not be allowed.

Equality would approve of this because when he loved learning about new things and watching both of these he would love them because he would love to find out more about them. He would also love these videos because he loved the Idea of freedom and joy and both of these videos express those.

These two videos would please Equality because they are very original and creative. They would go against the council because they are not done in the normal, or expected way. There is no creativity in the community that Equality lives in, so he would approve of the music and visions for these videos. They are like nothing he's ever seen before so it would surprise him and make him realize that there is originality.

This Too Shall Pass and White Knuckles by Okay Go, violates the societal norms set by the councils in Anthem because they are being creative and unique with how they do a simple task. In Anthem, Equality was berated for being smart and asking questions. The Rube Goldberg machine took trial and error and took a lot of thinking. This is the opposite of how the Council wants people to be. I think Equality would like the two videos because they show people being creative and different.

Okay Go violates the societal norms in Anthem in a few ways. First, they express creativity and create songs and videos that don’t conform to what the Council dictates. They also show how people can work individually and work together in a project that doesn’t really do anything for the benefit of everyone in society.

The two videos I think would make the counsle happy becuase all of the engineers and trainers worked together to make the video. In the video each device had to work off of each other just like how all the brothers had to work together in Anthem.

I think the two viedos directly correlate with the Council's ideas because they go with the collectivist agenda and require everyone to work together. This goes with their societal norms.
