Cyclops: Text To Film In "The Odyssey?"

What subtle or overt differences did you notice regarding the Book IX The Odyssey reading and The Odyssey film clip of the Cyclops episode?  Explain, note, argue, quote, and defend.  Anything regarding the Heroic Code, Guest/Host Relationship, or hubris?  After watching the film clip, please respond during class.

In the film there is a lot more dialogue between characters than the book. Also the cyclops in the film is more violent and dangerous than what we read in class. In both the text and the film, Odysseus is very clever and knows how to manipulate the cyclops.

the cyclops is meaner ad talked a lot less in the film. he asked more questions he talked to the men more in the book.also in the book he did no immediately.

I notice that in the book it says that the Cyclops picks up the stone and the room is dark but in the movie the Cyclopes pushes the stone and the cave is already light and the monster see the people as soon as he enters. Also in the book it says when he ilks the goats and put half there milk away and the rest in bowls but in the film the giant doesn't do that.

The differences are their outfits all look like cave people and they are not actually looking like gods or goddesses. He is talking about the magic in his head when there isn't much magic. There isn't a lot of differences between the two things.

In the text and the film it shows the cyclops devouring two of his men. As the cyclops drinks the wine we wants more and seems to be drunk. The nae he refers to with the cyclops is "Nobody." In the film and book alike they stab the cyclops eye out in order for hm to open the door so they can escape. Athena and Hermes are metaphorically present.

I noticed a couple of relevant differences between the book and the movie. One being, The Cyclops was much more violent in the film. Another being that there is a lot more talking between characters and the Cyclops in the film than in the book. Odysseus is both cunning and manipulative in both the film and the book though.

In the movie the coyclops is a lot meaner and he talks a little bit less as in the book he´s pretty chaty. He was more intrested in the people and why they´re doing what their doing and asking a lot of questions.

The differences between the book and the movie are that the book goes into more detail rather than the movie. One of Odysseus men starts to say his name but gets interrupted and in the book, Oddeysus just states his name Noman. The book and the movie can't match perfectly because thoughts and feelings can't film perfectly.

In the book, the Cyclops picked up the stone so maybe the cyclops is bigger in the book and the Cyclops was a lot angrier and ate more people and the cyclops talked more to the men in the film than in the book.

There are many differences in the film versus the book. The cyclops seems way more violent in the film with the actions that he takes as opposed to what we read in class. He asks a lot of questions, but Odysseus is still really smart about the way escaped in both the film and the book.

The clip was different from the book because of some minor detales like the wine was kept in an animal skin not a bowl. When he grabed the two people he grabed them both at once. In the clip he grabed only one of them and ate them. These are minor details but overall the clip captures the big picture.

The book and film were different in ways, for example in the book Odysseus doesn't say his name is "nobody." He says it's Norman. The cyclops is also very mean in the film versus the book, he seems nicer. Those were some on the main differences, the other ones were just minor details.

Between books and films, there will always be differences, but I think the main ones are thoughts, background information, and speed. The films, however, also portray differences as giving you a live visual of the scenes and what is going on. Great books don't always transfer as great movies, whether it blames the time the movie was shot or how good the translation is this is not one the worst ones I've seen.

The differences that I noticed between the video and the text were that the text seemed more intense. I also think that Odysseus didn't seem as cocky in the movie. The text describes him and Odysseus thinking he is the king of the world and in the movie he relates more to the other men than their leader.

One of the differences I noticed was, in the book The Odyssey the men ran and hid when the cyclops came in, but in the film they did not run from him. The film also portrayed the events happening in one day, whereas in the book the events happened over a course of about three days. When the men are escaping from the cave, they all held onto the sheeps' bellies and got away in the book, but in the film they disguised themselves as sheep and not all got away safely.
